That's an oxymoron. And I disagree because people have been doing baroque pop decades before Arcade Fire's label sent out press releases with words like 'awe-inspiring' and 'uplifting' in it, and better too.
Plus, on a personal note, I've always thought it was too much like church music, these really simple songs somehow made revelatory by being performed really loud by lots of people with a super-annoying religious zeal. Ill never be converted. IN THE BIN.

Oh yeah and 'the Neon Bible'?? gtfo. Sounds like a title Radiohead would come up with.

edit: but i would probably like them if i was under-18 and from Canada

not neon bible. funeral.

i don't mean that they're classic because they've revolutionized a genre. they most likely haven't, but they made fantastic music in funeral, and generations from now we'll be talking about how great that album presents itself.

look at the albums that are considered classics today. exile on main st, for example. considered mediocre back then but it is now regarded as an album that maximized the possibilities of a vision and concept.

you have to go beyond the music sometimes.

Wow I didn't realize this would turn into a "Good or Bad Bands From Canada Thread". Anyways there just isn't much music I can appreciate from Canada, Niel Young is pretty good but I just wouldn't be able to appreciate his music (found that he had a bit of a Daniel Johnstonish voice), also I really have a thing for European accents and love overseas experimental music from the late 70s and early 80s, i'm not to big of a fan of most indie music although I like a few indie bands like The Yeah Yeah Yeahs or The Moldy Peaches, but I can never seem to get that whole indie hipster thing out of my head, as a lot of people I know are really pompous and snobby about music and go on praising some indie band no one has heard of, and making fun of everyone who hasn't, it probably seems dumb that I am letting people affect what I listen to but I think the entire experience of listening to music is what really counts and if someone ruined that for me because I think of something else whenever i hear it oh well

Quite the opposite around here from what I've seen.

IS Neon Bible an album title yet? I'm taking it if it's not.
