There are not that many rollercoasters in Norway, so I guess taking up a thrill rides hobby here isn't going to be anywhere as fruitful as it could be in America. The most exciting thing I've been in is this :

http://oslopuls.aftenposten.no/multi...4_j_22057d.jpg

It's called Speedmonster and is in the Tusenfryd theme park not far from Oslo. It's quite thrilling and so fast you barely know what's going until the ride is finished. It starts like a bullet and it's all over a bit too fast. I like those that build a little suspense before you're thrown into the rush.

I tried bobsleigh once, though. That was also fast and fun.

You ever been to Schlitterbons I think it is called? I always used to see it on the best parks show on tv, and it looked pretty sweet.

I rode the Dragster and if it's anything like Kingda Ka (which sounds like a second rate Dragster, built like 20 feet higher and 10 mph faster just for the sake of breaking the Dragster records), it's nothing special. Being the tallest and fastest coaster in the world doesn't make it anymore fun than any other coaster.

I go to Kings Island often. The Beast is legendary, best ride in the park and too popular to be torn down.

You'r out in the middle of nowhere deep in the woods for most of the ride, it's awesome.

other favorite rides are:

Millennium Force:

AND

I still like the Magnum better. Especially when I compare the first time I rode each. The M-Force is fantastic but it's a little to clean a ride for my liking.

lucifer_sam 05-15-2009 02:24 PM

i think that's part of the draw. 90+ MPH and no jerk to speak of. the accelerated lift is pretty sweet too.

That's awesome because slow lifts really piss me off. It drives me crazy going up 230 feet while some enthusiastic voice says "Welcome to Behemoth! During the ride remain seated and hold onto your lapbar until the ride comes to a complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy your ride!"

I think roller coasters should've been a fetish option in the other thread. At least for me.

Went to my first theme park when I was 18, and it was a trip to Kings Island, a night ride on the The Beast is easily the sexiest thing in the world. =) Cedar Point was fun too... But they were a little less lax on drinking rules than KI, which took some of the fun out of it for me. Also been to Holiday World, and most recently Dollywood. Ended up in the hospital after HW, my abdomen was bruised for weeks.

Literally five minutes from my house, there's a little park called Beech Bend, with a wooden coaster, the Kentucky Rumbler, very convenient, and way too much fun.

Kings Island is my home away from home though... counting down the days until I get to go again, and the second week in June is much too far away.

(BTW, in my first Magnum experience, there was a path of blood leading to the ride, which probably would've deterred a normal person -- but it was still f'in awesome.)

it doesn't work that way for guys. we're into them for lame, nonsexual reasons.

same for motorcycles. :(

That's unfortunate. And I've never been on a motorcycle... are you hinting at something? =)

There's a video floating around somewhere out there, came across it on a roller coaster forum, can't find it now, but this chick, Amy Wolfe, who's an objective-sexual, is infatuated with this carnival ride, 1001 Nacht... I don't think I'll ever appreciate thrill rides quite the way she does... but just goes to prove the power of a little acceleration.

since its opening in 2001 the Millennium Force has either placed first or second in the Golden Ticket Awards for the top-rated coaster. of course, the Magnum wasn't far behind, but i find that the M-Force just eclipses it in intensity and fun.

here's last year's list:
Golden Ticket Awards - Top 25 Steel/Wooden Roller Coasters

edit: holy shit, for some reason a coaster from my local park made the top ten. wow.

Damn, that link just introduced me to another one of my favorite rides of all time that I haven't ridden in years!

GhostRider:

Granted, the ride isn't that tall or fast, but it makes brilliant use of clever drops (it'll look like your about to slam into wood, and at the last second you'll drop just missing the wood).

By the way, I agree that MForce is slightly better than Magnum

In the roller coaster's defense, he did have to jump a fence to get his head cut off.

True, but it's almost always attributed to human error. I believe the foot cut off incident was error by the mechanics or something

Plus that's neither the ride nor the exact model that cut the girls feet off. That's drop zone from kings island

This is the ride that cut her feet off:

Absolutely. I bet there was a pretty settlement too. Not as pretty as having your feet... but... yeah.. nvm. lol

's alright, Kings Island blows anyway (before dismissing me, consider the perspective of someone who's worked there)...

Except for The Beast, that ride is awesome

Alfred 05-16-2009 05:01 PM

Canada's Wonderland has more rides. :)

midnight rain 05-16-2009 05:11 PM

We have The Beast:

Ride it son!

And Son of Beast, which has an awesome design but poor execution!

6underground 05-16-2009 09:31 PM

Mmm... Beast... makes my mouth water.

Alfred 05-16-2009 10:05 PM

Both those rides look awesome. The loop on Son Of Beast is a nice touch.

Alfred 05-19-2009 05:37 PM

Well, I'm off to Canada's Wonderland tomorrow. Obviously I'll brag about how awesome it was.

So I leave you with this delicious video of the Behemoth so you can all be jealous of me.

LoathsomePete 05-19-2009 05:43 PM

I think I just came a little... that ride looks insane, that first drop was just intense. I wish you a fair trip my good friend, have fun :D

Alfred 05-19-2009 05:54 PM

Yeah, thanks, I'm so excited for it.

The ride is insane, even better when you ride it. First drop is exhilirating, there's nothing like it.

It would be even more awesome if the loop was still there. =(

Alfred 05-19-2009 06:54 PM

They removed it?

6underground 05-19-2009 08:10 PM

Yup, like 3 years ago, there was an accident when the weight of the cars made the track collapse -- the cars had to be so heavy in order to make the loop, so when they switched to lighter cars it had to be taken out.

I live 30 minutes from Cedar Point, which is arguably the best theme park in the world (Most Coasters of any park), so I lost the thrill of Coasters by the time I reached high school because I'd go 30 or so times a year. Millennium Force is easily the best coaster I've ever been on.

I've been to CP once, and I can see how you could become spoiled. I'm still having withdraws, hopefully I'll get to visit again this year though... it's just so damn far away.
