MB E-Zine (Idea)

I was trying to think up a topic for one of those Member's Journal things when I got the idea of a regular E-Zine with several members contributing articles.

I might have a few on board already but I want to hammer out the details and see if I can get some more contributers.

Okay first (and least important), the name. A couple I was tossing around..
  • The MusicBanter Gazette
  • The MB Reader
  • MB Monthly (or weekly, depending)

And of course, the oh so generic "The MusicBanter Times"

Okay secondly, content. I was thinking:
  • A general introduction each edition.
  • Reviews
  • Music News ("Nelly to recieve Pulitzer Peace Prize")
  • Music Interest Topic ("Why Nelly shouldn't win a Pulitzer Peace Prize", "Limp Bizcut should die")
  • A highlighted music or non-music article to close.

Thrid, frequency.

Either it's weekly, monthly or every two weeks.

Lastly, I will always publish quality articles sent to me by anyone, but I'm looking for some regular contributors.

jackhammer 06-03-2009 04:46 PM

The sub forum that it may go in is already called the MB reader fella. As you already know I'm on board.

LoathsomePete 06-03-2009 05:20 PM

I'm so down like a clown in China town for this.

Gah I knew I had seen that name before :(

Fruitonica 06-04-2009 05:34 AM

What sort of format are you thinking of?

dac 06-04-2009 10:44 AM

I think a monthly installation would produce better quality and be more interesting.

But at the same time it would allow alot of the 'hot topic' issues to fall through the cracks. As they wouldn't be relevant by the end of the month.

Scarlett O'Hara 06-04-2009 12:13 PM

I'm very keen! :)

I love talking about the latest events.

That's why a fortnightly edition would be best, I think.

Vanilla, do you want to contrinbute?

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 12:49 PM

maybe you could add some free downloads, exclusive videos, etc...
(i like this idea)

FaSho 06-04-2009 02:51 PM

I would be willing to contribute. I also think Stone Birds has a good idea, and I would vote bi-monthly as well.

gunnels 06-04-2009 03:03 PM

I'm digging this idea.

Schizotypic 06-04-2009 06:36 PM

I definitely wouldn't want to be a part of it, but I'd love reading it if it gave me new bands to look-up or some sort of treat like that. Knowing MusicBanter and the people who post here, I think that would just be a good contribution to the Internet as far as the spread of music goes. Pretty sure this is eventually going to end-up in a more official thread, with a poll.

Alfred 06-04-2009 06:45 PM

I'd be down for helping... I think it's about time MB had something like this.

someonecompletelyrandom 06-05-2009 01:06 PM

Okay so I'm going to PM everybody who said they'd contribute.

Please post here what topic you decided to do.

LoathsomePete 06-05-2009 01:15 PM

So is it going to be bi-weekly or monthly installments?

someonecompletelyrandom 06-05-2009 01:37 PM

Bi-Weekly.

Stone Birds 06-05-2009 01:47 PM

i'm usually really good at finding special mp3s and stuff (legal its more fun and challenging that way) so i'll get that stuff. as for the exclusive vids things i think someone else might have a better time with that.

FaSho 06-05-2009 01:51 PM

Can I review the new Mars Volta album even though it won't be released for a couple weeks? :D

That would be great! And Stone Birds just PM me whatever you come up with.

Alfred 06-05-2009 09:04 PM

Aww shit, I was gonna do a review of the new Mars Volta album... oh well I'll see what else I can do.

someonecompletelyrandom 06-05-2009 09:19 PM

We are probably good as far as reviews go.

The Unfan 06-05-2009 09:25 PM

So essentially your idea is to take what this site is already doing and repackage it as something else despite the content not changing at all? Neat.

music_phantom13 06-05-2009 09:26 PM

Well I don't know about being a contributor (I = noob) but I really like this idea and would definitely read it every week or 2 weeks or month or whatever it ends up being. Once I see what it's going to be like, I'd be interested in writing something for it. Until then, good luck! Make sure this doesn't just disappear like some of the other awesome ideas I've seen on here :(

No, it's original content written soley for the purpose of appearing in an organized, compact, and entertaining segment.. plus some original things the site hasn't really done before. If I can get people to read it end to end, I'll be happy.

Stone Birds 06-05-2009 10:30 PM

i already submitted my piece for this week.

Stone Birds 06-06-2009 11:17 AM

someonecompletelyrandom 06-06-2009 11:21 AM

I have gotten confirmation that they are writing their pieces.

Stone Birds 06-06-2009 12:34 PM

awesome

LoathsomePete 06-06-2009 10:33 PM

I may be a little late on mine, I have to go out to Sacramento tomorrow to pick up my mum and step dad because their car broke down and I have a ton of math homework that I cannot do at this time because I just spent 10 hours in a car today, I will get it to you by Monday, however when on Monday I'm not sure.
