I didn't get it, but I should've (my random guess was Oranges by Soto). The date threw me off, references like that aren't usually so recent so I was thinking of stuff from 1940 onward.

Hey, at least you got the time frame correct. My wild guess was a Victorian poem, so that was way off - and my only reasoning was that it's about felled trees that presumptively could be "restored". And poplars don't even bear edible fruit, so that was way off too.
