Yeah, I suppose I have. I grew up not far from an area that had a lot of Cantonese and Vietnamese businesses and restaurants, including tiny bakeries and gigantic Dim Sum places. Of course, the street-food of China (just like the street food of America) is very cheap, especially in the very-urban and very-rural areas. Disregarding the entirety of a cuisine because you don't like one specific type of dish, or because a few restaurants disappointed you, is like completely giving up on a genre of writing because a few books didn't catch your attention. I've already suggested what types of restaurants you might like, and whether you try them or not is up to you; what more needs to be said?

That's a link to the homepage/reviews of an Indian restaurant. It has nothing to do with whether you've given Chinese food a fair shot, as they're completely different. And yet you keep posting it as if to say "Wow, look at me, I can post a website about Indian food!" I don't really care, and it's completely irrelevant. If you're mad because I insinuated that you're not a fan of spices, then all you had to say was "I don't like spices" and we could have talked more about just why it is that you don't like Chinese food. And yet, you decided to opt for the less subtle approach, and literally write "Chinese food is ****", and then get mad when people try to defend it.

Fair enough. But not really. What you are tasting today is far removed from the traditional stuff. They had to evolve to US tastes and have done so gradually through the years/decades.

Chinese food here 35 years ago was much more authentic than it is today.

I get your point, but it's not like every restaurant has blindly given in to the tastes of Americans. I've been to big places that are very Americanized, and small places that are die-hard traditional, and there were parts of both that I both liked and disliked (though mostly things that I liked). I guess one day I'll just have to fly over to China to see if I really like the super-authentic dishes.

Thanks for insulting me. Now, if you're done, I still think you should go try a different variety of Chinese restaurants out there. You might find them very different from what you're used to. Like I said, finding a good Dim Sum joint is an amazing experience, and Chinese bakeries and specialty restaurants offer much more than what you might expect.

The spice thing was ridiculous. But fair enough & cool, you're posting a bit less aggressively now and I appreciate that.

I'm not arguing that a majority of places do Westernize it, but I would assume there is at least one Chinese restaurant in the entire US that serves "real" Chinese food and doesn't cater to the American palette. Regardless, the point I was trying to make is that you don't need to be in a country to get their food. Maybe in this particular case traditional Chinese food is not available to us but there are tons of classic French, Italian, Spanish, Indian, etc, spots that do not cater to the American palette.

As far as the comment about my eating goes, I'm not picky, I'd try it, might finish it. American food is probably my least favorite so I don't think I'm all that corrupted.

I'm down to try anything but shit/piss, and open minded about fermented food. I haven't tried a lot but here's some of the stuff I enjoy at least a couple times a year that a lot people won't go near: cow tongue, fish eyes, tripe, sea urchin, salmon roe(the big ones), blood sausage.

I had a friend who went to China, and he said Chinese food is almost inedible as it's basically just a bowl of grease.
