North Korea is one strange country. I watched a couple documentaries on it the other week, absolutely crazy.

I wanna go just so I can buy every single N. Korean propaganda t-shirt I can find and then wear nothing else for the rest of my life.

This is assuming I can find any that fit me. My buddy went to China on a school trip years ago and brought me back one of those blue workers' coats or whatever, and it was the largest size he could find, but I still felt like a gorilla trying to wear human clothes. I get the feeling there aren't a whole lot of XXL's in North Korea.

the vice news report on north korea was classic... they sent a reporter in and he was allowed in but it's basically controlled where you can go and who you can talk to... so basically the north korean govt approved version of tourism

it's pretty clear that the entire experience was more or less just a series of staged interactions by the govt. there was one part where he was invited to get a taste of a north korean 'restaurant.' when he went in... there were no customers or anything in there. just a single clerk. it was pretty obvious the entire operation was a staged attempt to convey a false image of north korean wealth and prosperity. pretty surreal/creepy documentary.

i like how dennis rodman went there to visit and came back with nothing but positive things to say... you know you're in good company when you get the dennis rodman seal of approval

another funny event was when their satellite launch failed, and in true north korean fashion they denied this to their citizens and even bragged that the satellite was in space broadcasting n korean propaganda to the rest of the world.

Quote:
In 2009, North Korea's propaganda machine bragged that its communications satellite was spinning the Earth and broadcasting paeans to Kim Il Sung and then-leader Kim Jong Il.
North Korea satellite launch fails quickly after liftoff - latimes

they also tell their people the whole world loves n korea and sides with them against the evil imperialist americans. funny thing is that in some liberal circles, the second part is not such a far cry from the truth. of course n korea has few supporters worldwide, but i have seen anti-american liberals say they would prefer russia or china as the world's main super power to american imperialism... pretty funny considering these same people would likely be sent to the laogai to be used as slave labor if they lived in china and tried the same kind of activism that they regularly practice in the west.

Yeah seen it, it's why it's pointless anyone going there, I know someone who wants to and I just think why? It might be one of those things you just do to say you've done it but other than that... The way they control literally everything is insane.

Have you heard much about the concentration camps there? There is a book I'm going to read 'Escape From Camp 14', about a guy who err, escaped from Camp 14, meant to be good but some of the details are meant to be incorrect. Unreal that stuff like that goes on.

The documentary I saw (might have been a BBC one) the journalist managed to sneak away from the tour guides and get some of the real NK on tape. Poverty everywhere. I really want to see more of this shit, what really goes on etc.

How to do homework: start drinking and race yourself to finish before you're too loaded to complete the assignment.

Working pretty well so far, though I don't have enough booze to really get wasted. The coffee mug full of wine, however, was a good start.

You do it so much faster, don't you? You're not bored and you feel just a bit of urgency, just in case you're too ****ed up to finish without giving everything you got.

Just drink the vodka. I understand the agitation, since I hate liquor, but sometimes you just gotta drink or swim.

it's champagne.

I intended to make mimosas.

Now I'm drinking my champagne with mango-flavored coconut water like some kind of barbarian.
