re: the second picture: It's so horrifying to me that people would literally dance for days to win marathon dancing contests, just so they could afford to eat for a day or two. People would pass out and their partner would continue dancing with them at all costs because it was one of their only options.

I remember seeing a picture a long time ago of a bunch of people who slept in the street just so they could keep their place in line for the soup kitchen early in the morning. It was an awful time for people.

Probably, but at least so many of them had the distinction of falling to their deaths from 50,000 stories up. That's badass as ****.
