Same tbh, I like it when underdogs win.

It's put to bed that Mayweather bullshit as well.

Was Holm really the underdog? I didn't know her before that fight but her history is legit.

Yes. People thinking Ronda Rousey would end it in about 0.25 seconds of the first round. Unbeaten yes, but so was Hatton vs Mayweather.

"Biggest upset in UFC history"

Holly Holm's knockout of Ronda Rousey is the biggest upset in UFC history - MMA Fighting

Look at the odds in that article, 1/22 for Rousey means it was a forgone conclusion (I'm aware the odds are dictated by betting patterns also).

tbh I watched this fight live to see how good Rousey was as everyone has been wanking over her, so it was a pleasant surprise to see what happened. Got too big for her boots and acted the twat before the fight.

I mean in actuality, not based on betting. She's a female Chuck Liddell.

How many other fighters that Rousey went up against had a history like this:

9-0 MMA record, plus

Quote:
Amateur kickboxing career
Holm's path to a career in boxing and kickboxing began with aerobics classes. Her cardio-kickboxing instructor was Mike Winkeljohn, who soon saw Holm's potential as a fighter and began training her. In the Fall of 2001, at age 20, she competed in the IKF USA National Amateur Championship Tournament in Kansas City, MO. After winning the first round of the tournament by TKO in just 34 seconds, she won the second and final round by unanimous decision to claim the national title in the international rules adult women's welterweight division,[8] a victory that would mark her last kickboxing appearance before her pro debut. Her overall amateur kickboxing record stood at 6–0–2.

Professional boxing career
Holm has held several welterweight boxing titles,[9] been highly regarded as one of the best female welterweights in the world, and is considered among the best of all time, by some.[10][11] She also has been named Ring Magazine female Fighter of the Year, twice in consecutive years in 2005 and 2006. She is a big draw in her home town of Albuquerque, having all but 3 of her fights there and just one of her fights outside of her home state of New Mexico.

In June 2008 she became the undisputed welterweight champion and holder of belts from 140 to 154 by defeating former champ Mary Jo Sanders by decision. They fought a rematch on October 17, 2008, at the Palace of Auburn Hills in suburban Detroit, which ended in a draw.[12]

On December 2, 2011, Holm took on knockout artist Anne Sophie Mathis of France for the vacant IBF female and WBAN welterweight titles. Holm was badly beaten by the stronger Mathis without the referee interfering, even going into the canvas without a count. She finally lost by knockout in the 7th round, which would be dubbed the upset of the year in women's boxing.[13] The two rematched on June 15, 2012 for Mathis's WBF female, IBF female, and WBAN welterweight titles. Holm took a unanimous decision win over Mathis, becoming the new champion and avenging her earlier KO loss.[14]

The odds are a very good indicator. Every media source is saying Holm was the underdog and every MMA fan I know thought it'd be unlikely to go past the first round (in Rousey's favour).

I think everyone got caught up in the Rousey mystique hype after the way she's manhandled her past opponents. Hindsight being 20/20, Holm shouldn't have been such a huge underdog.

I didn't know that people cared about this ****, I thought that Rousey was popular on social media because of boners.

I don't really "care" about it but I've been a pretty big fan of MMA since the very first UFC tournament.

Following it is caring about it more than me, so yes you do care about it. Nothing bad on you for liking it, I was just surprised that there was a large number of people here who follow it since I've only met a few people who were into it, or that I knew were into it.
