A couple of things, firstly, my computer keeps turning itself off occasionally - usually when I try to play a game or do something too consuming. What is the most likely cause of this problem? I've had this computer for, I don't know, maybe 4 years or so.

Also, I'm looking into making my own computer able to run some good, current-gen games, etc. anyone got any hints or suggestions on that? I'll probably spend around £500 on it, probably a bit more. Not looking for some super-uber-special-chocolatey-fudge-coated-awesome computer, but I'd like it to be quite good.
