I've never played D&D - it's always seemed too complicated and like it would take too long.

I was never more than vaguely interested until I started watching Critical Role and then it became kind of an obsession. And now I'm super into the idea of finding my character's height and weight through dice rolls cause that's a thing.

What would compel you to start watching a series about D&D if you've never been into it before? Boredom?

And if you don't have any friends, how you gonna play?

EDIT: Kickass shirt btw

Basically. But it's done by voice actors doing hardcore role play so it's as good tv as anything scripted. And hundreds of episodes 3-4 hours long so it's a rabbit hole. Legit a top 5 Internet thing.

I do have the one friend who doesn't know what I now have planned for him.

That's pretty cool, you must be rather open minded - I don't think I'd hop into a show like that unless I was very familiar with D&D. So have you never played D&D before? Will this be your first time?

I haven't bought it yet, but I'm really considering buying this seltzer making machine. Just need to load it up with water and it carbonates it. About $80, but would save me money so I don't have to buy canned seltzer and it'll be great to not have to deal with recycling the cans every week.

I feel like an absolute dumbass because I didn't even know seltzer machines were a thing until today. I guess my stupid ass thought it took industrial machinery or something.

I mean the in for me was that it was basically a show to watch with drama and intrigue rather than just some random people playing a game. But I'm always looking for the next internet rabbit hole tbh. This just happened to be a next level thing you simply can't expect unless you just happen to to get blasted by it. Give it ten minutes, bro. It'll give you a hundred hours.

As it's a Twitch stream (uploaded to Youtube) it has an intro you can skip so you can skip to here to avoid all the stream whatnot you don't need to hear.

https://youtu.be/byva0hOj8CU?t=991

Or you can skip even the prologue to get straight to the beginning of the narrative.

I watched about 20 minutes of it, the joy these people feel is actually a little infectious. They're all obviously really into it. I gotta admit - though I've never played D&D, it does look like a lot of fun, and I'd imagine the more people you have, the more fun it is.

That said, I don't think I could watch it for an extended period of time. It's kinda the same deal I have with "Let's Plays" of video games. After a while, I don't want to watch it anymore, I just want to play myself, y'know?

Oh - by the way - I did give the Great Milenko a couple listens recently. I gotta admit - I liked it more than I thought I would. The beats were a lot tighter than I thought they'd be. And also, the rapping reminded me specifically of B-Real (which is not a bad thing). Thanks for making me finally give these guys a listen. I consider myself a pretty big hip-hop head (I think a large majority of my early years on MB was spent focused on hip-hop [and classic rock]), but I'd always had an unjustified bias against ICP, just because of the bad press they got, I suppose. I can't speak for their other stuff, but The Great Milenko is tight.

A cabin air filter. I went all out and splurged on the Wix brand. I needed one pretty bad though, as it looks like it's never been replaced:

I don't care if it's unhealthy, by Jesus I've missed deep fried food! Got to be ten years since I had one of these in the house. I forgot chicken could taste this juicy, and that chips don't have to be hard and rubbery. Ah, my old friend! How I have missed you!

Nice. Nothing like some good old fashioned fried chicken.

I just grabbed some of these valve stem caps for my truck:

It's an homage to my 55B MOS in the Army. Bang bang explodey stuff. I'd love to find an MLRS version of something. Those made up the bulk of the work we did out there. Not sure what that could possibly be though.

Plankton 01-25-2021 09:53 AM

Danke. The reception is crap with it, but I don't listen to local radio much. It telescopes up to 12", but that ain't much help.

After trying unsuccessfully to register for a DG tournament the other day (overloaded server), I decided to ditch all that and take that money and buy a new coffee table. It was on sale and much less than their overpriced marked up msrp, and exactly what I had in mind for a few years now, which is a darker stained wood and a lift top. So, instead of paying for delivery I went and grabbed it myself and it came in a huge 120 lb box and I had to put it together. Carefully taking each piece out, I discovered that the lower 'shelf' had some damage, so I took some pics and headed back to the store. I showed them to a manager and she said they'd order a new shelf and have a tech come out and fix it for free. Yay. Excellent customer service. I also grabbed a marked down rug to go with it all on my way out. Next up will be a new piece for the flat screen tv and sound bar.

^ Your new, darker-stained coffee table blends perfectly with your decor, Plank. Your livingroom looks beautiful - I love your sectional, rug, vases, tree, plants. You have very nice taste.

A friend of mine has a Shaq rookie card... or he had one at some point. Not sure if he still has it or not. When he first got it in the 90's we had no idea that he would become a general (lol), it was just part of a set.

I picked up a decent TV stand which was about $400 off the msrp (marked up BS). It really ties it all together nicely. Now to replace that end table (left) and cheapo lamp on the right.

Spoiler for Planks Crib:

Someday, me and the other millenials will get the wonderful experience of owning a home.

Thanks!

I'm living the condo life actually. No mowing, no shoveling, no cleaning the gutters, none of that.

Ahhh... *kicks feet up*

Plus, I work from home these days:

Spoiler for entire CAD server on my dining room table:

A house out west is in the works.

I think I'm gonna start diving into ancient and classical era histories like the Anabapsis and Herodotus and I'm starting my dive with Julius Caesar's firsthand account of the conquest of Gaul. It sounds like top notch war stories made to be propoganda and I'm stoked for it to arrive hopefully today.

Let me know how you like it. I've been meaning to read up more on ancient history as well.

Like you said, I imagine this will be to the conquest of Gaul what Grant's memoirs were to the Civil War.
