Lol, I think it's a good idea because that way people don't have to go through a bunch of threads dealing with a topic they have no interest in, the media forum is mostly for movie/tv related stuff so I think a video game forum would be nice, at least that way people won't complain about me making nothing but video game threads.

A lot of my threads on the topic have a lot of posts so it's certainly a topic a lot of people are interested in, enough so that I think it might be worthy of it's own section.

All of the above?

I really like discussing as long as it's a proper subject and not just bickering because someone worded themselves poorly and couldn't accurately describe the thought that was in their head at the time - or something similar. As long as the discussion moves forward, I tend to enjoy it. What I don't like about forums is whenever you have a discussion in a thread that is moving forward, new people enter it who only replies to the op without reading any of the following posts. If you wanna discuss with these people, you end up going back to the start over and over and over again.

The worst thread so far (imo) was the drugs thread. You could discuss drug politics with people who seemed like they got really mad for real if you posted anything speculative against the drugs they love (esp. that one guy who lived in that thread) and every discussion was spiced with people bragging about how much dope they'd smoked or popped every now and then.

I can't really bare a lot of the current events threads/ political threads/ religion threads mostly because people get heated and instead of being a civilised debate it's pretty much a bunch of opinionated people not listening to anyone else's points of views and not really contributing in any valuable way...

I picked 'The American Political System' because specifically that is the most tedious for me, partly because of the fact that I don't live in America.

The sex and drugs threads I don't really think are that tedious, they're a bit of fun and sometimes somewhat informative. Same with the video games, don't think that area of discussion is tedious either...

Yup, that's the guy. If you wrote something like being really high when driving makes you more likely to have an accident, he would take it as a personal insult.

I agree a bit with the american political system arguments. I usually stay out of those since I'm not an american. I chose religion in this poll, though. There's no reasoning with people over religion so discussing it is often futile and almost guaranteed to make someone upset.

FETCHER. 10-12-2009 09:03 AM

i chose religeon even though it was a tie between it and the american political system, both i don't care much for at all.

Arya Stark 10-12-2009 11:25 AM

It's difficult because religion is based on beliefs, not on actual facts, so everyone has their own interpretation of their religion and othr religions. I chose the political system, but at least with that it's possible to have multiple, solid facts to support your opinion.

It's just a shame that politicians don't adhere to the same philosophy.

Is this a vote/discussion that's going to affect any of the mentioned threads?
Because if not, then uhh...
A thread to talk about tedious threads?
http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/1500/hmmm.png
Great idea.

Mojo 10-13-2009 02:39 PM

The drugs and sex threads probably annoy me the most. It's the content rather than the making of the thread in the first place. Those who talk about either too much and especially give the opinion that they are bragging or think it makes them cool in any way whatsoever just piss me off to no end and so its the same on the internet.

Video games are something i have an interest in but admittedly a passing one these days. I don't spend much money on games. Some of the discussions on here just make me cringe though because they can go on forever.

Honestly, I haven't come across actual people like that since high school over 10 years ago. What kind of crowd are you usually surrounded by?
I don't even think in those terms anymore, much less be annoyed by some guy/gal I will never meet, using a socially deviant activity as their personal status billboard.

I find it far more fulfilling to just not give a fuck.

Mojo 10-13-2009 02:58 PM

The crowd i spend most of my time with don't do any of the things i just mentioned because if they did i would probabaly end up punching them but i do know people like that. People who you can see waiting for you to finish what you are saying just so they can start a conversation with "Man, i smoked SO much weed last night...." or people who go to work every Monday morning with a story of the chick they fucked that weekend and seem to make their way around pretty much everyone else to tell them about it too until theres no one left.

People who talk about sex and drugs don't annoy me, it's just the idiots i can't stand who expect me to a) be impressed or b) really care either way.

I just don't understand that if you're not around these people most of the time, why you'd spend enough time thinking about them to be annoyed by them.
I would think they were annoying, but only for the time I was around them. Then I would promptly get them the hell away from me and that would be that. I just don't know why it seems like a big enough issue to you that it becomes a recurring theme in your perspectives. (I remember you talking about this before)
I'm not trying to call you out or anything... just trying to understand your POV.

Oh yes, good point. Those are tedious.

How do you debate what's real with someone who thinks all proof to be fabricated lies? Nothing on the forum makes me sigh more than those discussions.

Doesn't that depend on what is considered proof?
I'm not one for conspiracy theories personally, but if the so called facts are established by people in power and passed off as 'the truth' to the masses (us) then who can blame them for disbelieving?

A perfect example of this is the proof of the weapons of mass destruction we were all shown prior to the invasion of Iraq.
And what a crock of shiit that turned out to be!
Clear and present danger my arse!!!

Guybrush 10-14-2009 06:22 AM

Don't forget that I'm referring to the discussions going on here, though.

They've been more about if NASA's mission to find water on the moon is a cover up, if the 1969 moon landing was the result of a conspiracy, that Obama wants to send most americans into concentration camps and is actually antichrist and that the flu vaccine is made to kill people to solve the overpopulation problem.

I'm sure there's something about people in power actually being lizards or aliens too if you dig around a bit.

Well I'll agree with you there alright.
The quality of conspiracy theories in those threads are pretty poor.
Room for improvement.

Yup, the concentration camp reference comes from one of Yukon Cornelius' old threads. He doesn't formulate the conspiracy theories well himself (they usually don't), but instead posted a video which he wanted everyone to see.

I found and made a summary of what the video (and the thread) was about and what made poor Yukon so worried here.

edit :

My favourite two lines perhaps were :

Quote:

The Obama phenomenon is a hoax carefully crafted by the captains of the New World Order. He is being pushed as savior in an attempt to con the American people into accepting global slavery.

Obama is continuing the process of transforming America into something that resembles Nazi Germany, with forced National Service, domestic civilian spies, warrantless wiretaps, the destruction of the Second Amendment, FEMA camps and Martial Law.

Oh Tore, why did you have to bring up such painful memories? Actually it was quite entertaining to watch The Great Yukon debates, his was a level of social and political paranoia not seen since Rod Sterling.

And if your wondering, then the answer is yes. I couldn't think of anybody to put there so I put Rod Sterling. It goes... kind of.
