How did you Find Music Banter?

I don't wanna tell you guys the reason i googled "music forums" but I did, and I'm kinda glad i joined.
Theres a true, sad and Fukt up story behind it all! :(
I will take it to my grave.
I'm here still tho, learning and getting to know everyones e- personality and such.
Ive butt heads and really freaked out a few people:p: in the progress
but you live and you learn!

So tell us how you came about this Forum.

storymilo 10-29-2009 05:39 PM

I heard about it from Rickenbacker cause I know him in real life. This was in June but I didn't post for about a month, until I friended Bulldog on Last.fm and he reminded me about it.

likuidcoka 10-29-2009 05:41 PM

So you know other users in real life.

LOL that sounds so retarted, but i know what you mean.

so basically you were referred to the site.

I like your siggy pic. Im a towel too sometimes, mostly when i forget where the hell i put my stash at. LMao

storymilo 10-29-2009 05:47 PM

I only know one user who posts here regularly and that's Rick. I just met Bulldog on last.fm

And thanks, it's a Southpark reference. Towelie is one of the characters who appears in a couple episodes.

FETCHER. 10-29-2009 05:53 PM

Um, I was bored one night. Hadn't used a forum in a while. Googled it. Nearly didn't join cos the size of it put me off. But I seen it as like some sort of challenge to get used to all the people. But it's not as big as I imagined, and I'm glad I joined.

Bulldog 10-29-2009 05:57 PM

I just googled music forum. The site I used to moderate before this one collapsed due to infighting between all the other mods and admins as well. I'd left out of boredom a while before all that happened though.

mr dave 10-29-2009 06:09 PM

i joined because it's the '5 years ago' version of a relatively dead music forum i mod / admin. i was curious to see if it would follow the same decline. it is.

likuidcoka 10-29-2009 06:11 PM

so your saying^^WERE all gonna die?!!

lol

Well I like it here.
and im not going anywhere..Muaaaaaa*evil laugh* jk

yes, the fact that we all die someday is the only thing that truly makes living worthwhile everyday.

as for the state of the site i just find it interesting from a e-socioligical perspective. seems to be 'normal' for online communities as opposed to something specific with any site.

Pourmeanother was pretty spot on with his discription of the lifecycle of a forum. I've witnessed it first hand a couple of times and it's always fascinating.

But I ended up here when I was googling some band trying to find a link to download an old album I couldn't find in any of the usual places (I forget which band) and lo and behold not only was there a thread on the band but somebody had posted a link to the album even though that's apparantly against the rules (I'm definately not complaining).

So I basically stuck around to check out the other artists in the indie section that I haven't heard off.

BTown 10-29-2009 06:37 PM

I wanna say this site started in 03' or at least that's the oldest member I've seen.

I don't remember what brought me to join this place, it was inl ate June. I Imagine I joined around 1-3 am considering that was pretty much the only time I used the computer in the summer. Probably bored one night by myself and I do remembering googling "music forum" first choice.

I am so glad I joined,my taste has expanded so much. When I joined a was close minded and would dismiss anything that wasn't approvedby Kurt Cobain (yea, i was lame).

I remember joining thinking this owuld just be a temporary thing.

likuidcoka 10-29-2009 06:39 PM

well if the oldest member is from 2003, and its still running, I say its doing pretty good.

+81 10-29-2009 06:47 PM

I was getting tired of the other forum I was on so as many others I googled 'music forum' and voila! It's pretty nice here. It's active yet it's not so packed that I have no idea who's who.

Malicious Wakizashi 10-29-2009 06:51 PM

My brother Tom I ventured to get him hot and bothered with my avatar

NumberNineDream 10-29-2009 07:53 PM

I was in 3 forums some years ago, and the 3 of the, collapsed the month I joined. So it did feel like a curse (and still feeling like was). So I was bored on a summer afternoon, trying to download some new album, so I googled and got some forums to join. I joined the first one, and in the next 5 minuted I felt that I should get to the other. The second one was MB, and I got hooked up ever since.

*Those freakishly tall and professional reviews really did it for me.

Victory Guy 10-29-2009 08:52 PM

I looked for a metal forum, but all of them sucked major **** and used to dismiss me because I'm only 15. I found this forum via teh Googz and have really started to fall in love with it.

Thrice 10-29-2009 08:55 PM

was playing a racing game called midnitechallenge with alejo, rockafella, xarius and some others we talked alot about music in the forums there, then rocka said ill just make a music forum, then this happened.

Try allmetalforums.com. Really active site and lots of members that share your taste in music.

SaphiaGlam 10-30-2009 06:09 AM

I actually got to the point where I was freaking out because no-one liked the same music as me. And I needed intellectually similar people to talk bout music with.
^_^

kouki 10-31-2009 10:50 AM

I would come on here every now and then just to read, but was not a member. One day when I couldnt think of who sung a song that had been on and off in my head for more then 10yrs,I decided to join.Thats when I asked who sung this etc, freebase answered it and the rest is history.

Farfisa 10-31-2009 11:22 AM

I was looking for a good child porn site, but I somehow stumbled across this place.

Ah, humble beginings.

LoathsomePete 10-31-2009 01:51 PM

The URL came to me in a dream.

Stone Birds 10-31-2009 04:11 PM

I searched "Music Forum" on google.

That's funny, I thought it was actually getting bigger and better each year.

OT: Googled music forums, back then this was the first result. Second forum I ever belonged to. First was for Christian gays. I know, right... seems like a century ago...:|

adidasss 10-31-2009 05:12 PM

Used to be. ;)

right-track 10-31-2009 05:29 PM

^ I knew you'd reach that conclusion all along mate.

I was searching for a reference to an old punk venue near where I live called The Mayflower Club and somehow ended up here.
I noticed a thread on The Kinks (a band I love and highly rate) made by Stu (then, LedZepStu) and realised after a few visits that this site wasn't a bad place to read about what other people were listening to.
To be frank, I still do more reading than posting. I don't think my post average has ever gone higher than 5 posts per day.
Since joining this forum I now belong to another forum which specialises in rare soul where I post far more.

The potential of this place is massive.
It has a multi-national membership which gets bigger every year and covers just about every music genre going.
There's still a long way to go and together we can help make this forum the biggest and best music site on the internet.

Edit: oops...soz Marijan I started off editing my original post to include that lot ^ and somehow deleted my original comment after refreshing the page. :/
Probable cause...alcohol.

I've had that problem for years....I read so much and type so little.

Guybrush 11-01-2009 04:41 AM

I also came here through a google search. I'm a member of a norwegian music forum, but it's dead so this is the only forum at the moment where I'm active. Before coming here, I was active on various other forums, mostly related to gaming.

music_phantom13 11-01-2009 07:48 AM

I was looking for a band, googled it, and the 3rd or 4th result was some site called Music Banter. So I went there, looked through the forum for a while and ended up joining. It's the only forum I've ever really been an active member of.

Do you remember what band it was?

CanwllCorfe 11-01-2009 11:13 AM

I also found it through google. I looked up something about Black Metal and then I saw an electronica section and got all giddy. Until I realized the majority of the members stayed in the rock and metal sections.. but that was more or less to be expected.

anticipation 11-01-2009 01:55 PM

i'm gregb's drug dealer.

Scarlett O'Hara 11-02-2009 02:34 AM

I found the place when I was 16 and obsessed with message boards. It is the best boards I've ever been on for sure! I feel like an old lady now. I am still pining for old members though.

adidasss 11-02-2009 05:02 AM

You're 20?? Holy shit.

I think I searched Swirlies shoegaze or something like that and for some reason I went to the second page of results. I saw a link to some site called musicbanter and was interested, and here I am.

loveissucide 11-02-2009 12:15 PM

Saw a link to it on another forum, which I never go on anymore.
