Torrents.

Sorry for the stupid thread but I have to know if there is something else out there... So where is everybody going if demonoid is dead?

abdullah424 11-03-2009 12:36 PM

I'll stick mostly with public sites like I do now. Just use peer guardian or blocklist manager and you should be fine.

music_phantom13 11-03-2009 12:54 PM

When the **** did demonoid die? And I'd highly recommend blogs; I usually actually find anything that might be on a torrent site plus a whole lot more through blogs. And it's a lot safer.

How do you find blogs that have what you want? What if I wanted like an Aretha Franklin discography?
I didn't even know blogs had d/l for music... =/

LoathsomePete 11-03-2009 02:15 PM

Type Aretha Franklin blogspot - mediafire/ megaupload/ rapidshare and you'll most likely find a blog that has download links inside.

Anyhow while Demonoid may be down it is certainly not dead, however I'm sure it'll be a very different site when it gets back on its feet.

adidasss 11-03-2009 03:01 PM

Demonoid makes me very sad. It's really the best all around torrent site out there. I make do with mininova and thepiratebay, but it's just not the same...:(

gunnels 11-03-2009 04:08 PM

The Pirate Bay has been the most reliable for me. If it doesn't turn up anything good I just google "Xalbum- Xartist torrent" and click on whatever sites pop up.

simplephysics 11-03-2009 04:12 PM

I know quite a few people who use What.cd, I don't use torrents but it could be a possible solution.

NumberNineDream 11-03-2009 04:18 PM

I never had a problem finding working torrents. I just google the thing, and there's always a discography available.

jackhammer 11-03-2009 04:20 PM

Apart from the very rare occasion, I still don't understand why people use torrents (I still don't D/L films despite having some great links) when you can find virtually anything through various search engines and it's faster too.

gunnels 11-03-2009 04:32 PM

For finding single albums I use blogsearch, but when I really want to check out an artist and get a few I'll use a torrent.

Because every moron out there seems to love using rapidshare and not only is it slow as hell but theres also a 3 item download per hour limit. So if I want a discog I'm definetly torrenting.

Seltzer 11-03-2009 04:50 PM

Filestube.com is your friend ;)

FETCHER. 11-03-2009 05:18 PM

I don't download any other way than with torrents :) thepiratebay.com has pretty much all I need and more.

It only allows me one download a day. :banghead:

Schizotypic 11-03-2009 06:19 PM

Well if anyone could give me an invite to what.cd that would be great!

BTown 11-03-2009 06:23 PM

I get everything through blogs. other forum posts.
Like if I'm looking for You're Living All Over Me by dinosaur Jr. I'll google something like

"You're living all over me dinosaur jr. megaupload"
or instead of megaupload I'll do rapidshare or mediafire depending on if I find it or not.

Yeah but without demonoid it just is not the same!
Lets take today, I wanted all five Simon and Garfunkel albums... now I have two options- 1) download via public torrents (which are usually crap), or 2) Search raidshare/mediaupload/blogs for all five one album at a time.

I'm not saying I'm unhappy with these methods (it's free music!), but rather that I'm unhappy with them just in comparison to demonoid- and that life without it's magical torrents makes me realize just how much I really am going to miss it.

This post has been in loving memory of our beloved demonoid, may she rest in peace always... or better yet come back.

storymilo 11-03-2009 07:24 PM

mediafire is definitely the best download site. Megaupload is pretty good too but rapidshare is just shit. Filestube.com is great though, because it searched for downloads from any sites

music_phantom13 11-03-2009 09:54 PM

Why does anyone use anything other than mediafire? It's a pain in the ass when the damn programs start telling me I've exceeded my number of dls after waiting 100 and some odd seconds. I think I've gotten stuff from filestube.com before, but not sure.

What's what.cd like? I've hearded loads about it but never actually been able to use it (I think you need an invite).

noise 11-04-2009 06:40 AM

why all the rapidshare hate? more often than not i can find what i'm looking for on rapidshare, either through various forums or just with google.

hint:

[artist] [album] intext:rapidshare.com/files/

[artist] [album] site:blogspot.com
and yes, i have a premium account. 7 euros per month is a very small price to pay, especially since i can download from them at 4 mb/s.

for rare stuff, i use waffles (private tracker). you can find anything there, and it's usually offerend in flac or at least 320/V0. it's a last resort though, because it's hard to keep a good ratio with so many damn seeders...

Captain Awesome 11-04-2009 06:57 AM

Isohunt, Extratorrents, Piratebay, Mininova, BTmon

best way? type whatever your looking for followed by the word torrent into google. For example;

"The who discography torrent"

you'll get a whole bunch of torrent links.

who ever used demonoid anyway? it always sucked.

- awesome out.

You do need an invite, I don't personally use What.cd so I've never seen the actually site, but like I said I know plenty people who swear by it. There's a what.cd group on last.fm that might help out whoevers interested. I told Schizotypic I'd ask around for him too.

In that case I usuall would just google "SImon and Garfunkle discography rapidshare" if that doesn't work I'd take out rapidshare and try megaupload or mediafire.

And the only reason I use stuff other than mediafire is because sometimes I can only find it through megaupload/rapidshare.

Schizotypic 11-04-2009 01:26 PM

I went to Wiki and found their discography (Simon and Garfunkel's) and used mediafire to get it album by album.... only took four or five minutes and mediafire let me d/l them all at once. Still, demonoid was rad.

BTown 11-04-2009 05:18 PM

I never got around to trying demonoid although I had always meant to. Why'd it close down?

Farfisa 11-05-2009 06:18 AM

It's still around, apparently they are fixing up the site and **** due to power outages.

Honestly the only thing I find rapidhsare has over sites like Mediafire is that you can upload more than 100 mb. Other than that the waiting is annoying, the download time is atrocious for non members, and quite frankly there's far superior upload sites. It perplexes me why that site is as popular as it is, because I honestly think it's a steaming pile of excrement and will often times upload things I've downloaded from there just so people aren't forced to go to that site.

noise 11-05-2009 09:05 AM

it's a vicious circle. rapidshare was the leader for many years, so that's where links are, so that's where people buy premium accounts, so that's where they upload new content...

but seriously. 7 euros a month. take a sandwich to work instead of going out to and you've got it covered. no wait times, fast downloads, and support for download managers.

CanwllCorfe 11-05-2009 09:06 AM

Luckily there's a lot of electronic music forums based in other countries. That's where I usually go. 4clubbers.pl, just4music.eu, and then also soundarea.org but that also has other genres.

Heh I'm not sure how kindly my work would take to that...

Really though, I think you're right about that cycle. But I still don't understand why more people aren't switching to mediafire; I mean I'm sure a lot of people that are uploading and downloading don't have a premium account, and I'll take 2 or 3 MB/s over 150 kb/s any day. Mediafire has such a nice interface too, and your stuff stays instead of disappearing after however long it is or whatever it is with rapidshare.

noise 11-05-2009 09:38 AM

there are more premium users out there than you think. for the files i have hosted, i typically get 1 premium to 2 free. anyway so many people still use RS that it's easy to get points, which means it's easy for me to get free extensions to my account. again with the cycle. these guys know what they're doing :)

LoathsomePete 11-05-2009 09:55 AM

Yeah but it's going against the whole point of downloading stuff for free. If I'm going to spend money to acquire music I'd rather just give it to the artists than people hosting a download site.

noise 11-05-2009 10:03 AM

fair enough. but you have to admit, 7 euros a month won't buy you very much music...

besides i tend to download a lot of HD video as well. good luck grabbing a 15 gig movie as a free user!

to each his own obviously, but i'll keep paying for rapidshare as long as it's around. any album i want is less than 30 seconds away - to me, that's worth paying a few bucks for :)

Yeah but when demonoid was up any discography I wanted, even the rarest, was a search and a click away.

Same here... Although megaupload used to allow me to download as many files as I wanted with no limits for a few months for no reason, then it suddenly stopped.

I used to use torrents a lot for album downloads, but now I've just been using blogspots and upload sites for everything. I'll usually use torrents for videos, although I've been slowly finding more ways to download movies and TV shows through upload sites.

Farfisa 11-05-2009 07:34 PM

I used to be part of a torrent site called PureLiveGigs, mostly to get some Spacemen 3 divids. It's another private torrent site, but it's a hella lot easier to get in (no invite required), but you need to keep your seed/leech ratio up to atleast 25% which isn't too bad.

i guess it depends on the music you like, and the quality you prefer. i found deomonoid to be mediocre at best for music, especially for (what i consider to be) rare stuff...

Singo 11-06-2009 01:07 AM

For torrent tracker I use Google... seriously :P

And some local private trackers which have great DL speed because of dedicated users. For public you can also find torrents with torrent search engines like isohunt.com.

Really? I found that probably over half of what I was looking for wasn't on Demonoid... files were usually seeded pretty well, and dled pretty fast, so that was a plus. People uploaded a decent amount of fake torrents/viruses, so that was a bit of a problem.
