He walked up to a graduation ceremony though.

Even on base, gun restrictions are fairly consistent and you're not just allowed to walk around with guns...for obvious reasons.

That is awful, I have to agree. My condolences are out to all those effected.

Perhaps I'm strange for this, but I do kind of find of weird that people are really hurt by these 12 deaths when thousands are dying in a place like Africa everyday. I know that may be a tad cliche to say, and I obviously don't mean to take any value away from the lives lost, but perhaps just curious as to why we value these lives over the thousands of others none of us say anything about. I suppose it's just that it's close to home and more personal, but death is death really.

Partly that, partly perhaps also the fact that the deaths in Fort Hood occurred as the direct result of someone's actions, especially someone that had up until that point been considered to be a part of the community. I agree that any unnecessary death is tragic but people will always feel more affected by a death that is closer to their own sphere of life.
