Christmas lists!

With Christmas getting closer with each passing day, I thought it'd be fun if we shared what we're hoping to receive from Old Saint Nick this year. Although Christmas is my favorite holiday, it's always difficult for me to come up with a wishlist to give to my family. Problem is I don't really want or need anything, so I usually just end up with a bunch of assorted things that people think I would like (which, sadly, I usually don't). But this year I've redoubled my efforts to find something that I would want/appreciate/use.

So far I've come up with:
Seven Samurai
Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again by Frank Miller
Water Margin by Shi Nai'an

NumberNineDream 11-27-2009 11:01 AM

I hope I get this, or at least this would get released by Christmas:

or any box-set, that always makes me happy.

Edit: Plus some Sennheiser headphones should be grand.
Edit 2: (I'm thinking of getting some Grados now)

Exact same thoughts here. I've reached a point where I don't feel like I need anything- so I tell people not to get me stuff. Then, that results in a bunch of stuff that... doesn't fit my style I guess? Here's a list I was able to throw together:

-San Jose Sharks tickets
-Case of beer: Lagunitas Brown Shuga'
-Movies: Inglorious Bastards
-Albums: Blakroc, Drummer, The Books, Jessica Lea Mayfield
-Books: "Freight Train Graffiti", "London Street Art Anthology", "Open: An Autobiography" (Andre Agassi)
-Nude Coffee Table Book (not sure which one will be best though): "Looker", "The Big Book of Boobs", "Women of All Sorts", "My Nude", other?? I don't know.

Money

I'm up in Vancouver for two weeks, if people can give me money so I can actually do things I'd be forever grateful.

pourmeanother 11-27-2009 12:44 PM

I also asked for money, but that didn't go over so well.

NumberNineDream 11-27-2009 12:49 PM

I'm sure I'm getting money, that's the deal I've made with my parents 10 years ago, so we can stop the disappointing gifts.

The only gift trade is between me and my brother.

Lucky! Have fun up there.

Main thing I'm wanting for Christmas is a 2nd 1TB external drive, for backup purposes.

Yeah it's pretty cool, I'll be staying at my buddy's place for awhile then my dad and step mom are going out of town from the 25th to the 2nd so I'll be looking after their apartment. Nice yuppie style apartment stocked with food, laundry, and Internet so I won't have to go to a coffee shop or anything.

lucifer_sam 11-27-2009 01:59 PM

i might be in the minority here but i strongly dislike receiving gifts for Christmas, i can barely stand the fucking holiday.

Oh you're not alone, in fact my friends and I are choosing the celebrate the solstice instead, but if it makes family members happy and I get ****, then so be it.

NumberNineDream 11-27-2009 02:50 PM

Christmas for me is just an excuse to get drunk (at least on that day, my parents can't make a big deal out of it).

TheCunningStunt 11-27-2009 02:58 PM

A new guitar
A plasma tele for the wall
A guitar plectrum necklace
Kurt Cobain canvas
Few other bits and bobs.

That'd make TheCunningStunt a happy chappy!

Yeah I'm very tempted this year to say I don't want to participate in a gift exchange, but my parents always ask me to send them gift ideas anyway so then I feel bad and end up getting stuff for others anyway. The key is to just limit spending. Having a girlfriend is always an issue too, they're so hard to please. You can never spend enough.

Dude you need to get out and enjoy the city! Although yuppie style apartments are cool. I love the architecture there, and everything is so clean! Without going too far east in downtown of course.

LoathsomePete 11-27-2009 03:20 PM

I've lived in Vancouver for years so I've enjoyed what downtown can provide me with. I'm honestly just going up to see friends and family, maybe do a little bit of shopping, and hopefully do some hiking if the weather permits.

I will be celebrating Christmas in Antarctica, camping out in the field, so the only wishlist I have is that I come out alive and get a good secret santa present.

simplephysics 11-27-2009 03:25 PM

all i'm asking for is a new phone this christmas, mine current one's got a big ol' split in the screen and now it's bleeding green around the crack. Can't make out half the text messages I get anymore.

What are you doing in Antarctica?! That is insane.

Yon Troper 11-27-2009 05:38 PM

I'm hoping for some video games, mostly. Hoping for: Assassin's Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2, some other stuff coming out about that time. And some books - Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash and Steven Erikson's Memories of Ice are top of my list. Books and games are basically all I want every year, so, yeah.

Freebase Dali 11-27-2009 05:52 PM

I don't get Christmas presents because my immediate family is cheap and I'm the only one with money. So I usually have to buy them all the presents, and buy my own.
This year, however, I won't buy my own because I'm trying to save money, and I'm already getting lists from my family, so I don't think I could cover my end anyway.

So far, I'm supposed to buy my mom all sorts of cooking stuff, my dad wants Acetylene and a new torch, My two little sisters never straight up ask me, but they always end up getting something pretty awesome from me... I just don't know if I can handle it this year.

Last year I bought both my sisters brand new laptops, and the parents got all kinds of stuff.
They pooled together and bought me a wallet.
The year prior, I put a system in one sister's car and got a home theater setup for the other sister.
I liked giving those gifts, but I just hope they don't get upset that this year won't be like that. Between college, transitioning to a new place and getting new furniture, bills, and trying to save, I just don't see myself being a very impressive santa this year.

So this year,
I just hope to get some appreciation even though I won't be able to come through like I have in the past.

I'm crossing my fingers for that.

pourmeanother 11-27-2009 07:53 PM

I'd be uncomfortable accepting a gift of that magnitude from someone, especially if I wasn't gifting something substantial back. Given your past generosity they should just appreciate what you have done, and understand the situation. you're in now.. Hopefully it turns out that way dude.

storymilo 11-27-2009 08:50 PM

I just want a ****load of albums and some other random stuff. I stopped really caring about what I got for Christmas a while ago.

Rickenbacker 11-27-2009 09:04 PM

I'm like a five year old around this time of year; I get absolutely giddy.

I'm hoping for:

Arrested Development Seasons 1-3 on DVD (mp4 video just. doesn't. cut. it.)
Some new Sennheisers
New Banjo (one that I can keep this time)
Some more serious recording equipment than my current setup
New wall paint for my room... this green is driving me, er... up the walls.
Subwoofer
And to top it off, a new laptop (this one is really on its way out. The sound stopped working entirely a month ago.)

Oh and some Scott Walker on vinyl would be nice. I've been on such a Scott kick recently.

sidewinder 11-27-2009 09:24 PM

Wow, you're a generous dude! Nice of you to be so giving when getting practically nothing in return. That's what family is all about! So I don't think you should worry about them being upset. If they get upset, something's not right. And you should dump them. :p:

BTown 11-27-2009 09:31 PM

I haven't put any thought into until now but
-new vans
-ass load of band merch
-new screen for my current laptop (or maybe a new one entirely"
-new plasmas
-new bed
-not really MY present but kitchen getting remodeled completely
-bathrooms remodeled

all I can think of now.

Astronomer 11-27-2009 10:44 PM

Hrm, well my family all live overseas so I doubt I'm going to see them, unless I can fork out a massive airfare! So my flatmates better get me presents! Ha, kidding... I enjoy giving lots more than receiving. (That sounded really dirty).

Farfisa 11-28-2009 03:14 AM

Pia Fraus shirt
Silver Jews shirt
Sir Richard Bishop "Freak of Araby" poster
Lilys "Selected EP" promo poster
Hardwire RV-7

That's pretty much it.

Molecules 11-28-2009 04:58 AM

yaaay what was it again? Happy Secular Gift-Giving Festival? To all the people who moan about christmas - you will start to appreciate it when it's the only time of year you can get together with your family all in one place. Or you might not, i don't care.

http://sketchesinamoleskine.files.wo.../10/boxset.jpg

don't know why I want this, because the album is 8 tracks long and i'm sick of it already. The art design blows my little mind though. And it comes signed by King Sex himself...

the surviving Beatles and EMI/Apple shareholders can get stuffed before i pay five billion pounds for their poxy box set,

Christmas is too stressful if we focus on the presents...so i tell people to keep it simple. My family (uncles aunts etc) do kind of a white elephant thing where we just buy one present each and then trade stuff. Idk, i like it.

From my parents I'm asking for:
Green Contacts (the really nice kind that make ur eyes look actually gorgous)
Black legwarmers
money

that is all. I have too much junk in my life anyway. I would ask for clothes and stuff but my mom doesn't seem to understand the simple=elegant concept.

I like christmas for the "caroling out in the snow" and singing at the old folks home and giving out scarves and hats and gloves to ppl who need them type things that most people finally remember to do around this time of year. The new snow is so flawless...things just get kind of quieter with snow to muffle it all.

That's precisely why I hate Christmas... because I don't get to see any of my family!

Word.

My futon is in shambles right now, the underlying frame is bent nine ways to Sunday and the wooden side parts have almost come off completely. I am afraid that one of these nights it's going to fall apart completely and one of my dumbass cats will be underneath it. I've taken precautionary measures by putting two old blankets of mine underneath it at both ends to cushion the impact if it does fall apart, but still... my cats are very special.

BTown 11-28-2009 07:47 PM

Yeah I'm still sleepign on my twin bed that I've had since like 1st grade. It's seen better days as well and normally I have to sleep curled oup or if I want to stretch I have to keep one foot out of the bed. My beds at a slant as well do to all my friends sitting on it and such.

**** camping in Antarctica. Seriously, I can hardly last a summer night camping in Scotland, never mind Antarctica. I'm sure you's will have better camping gear than what I own though, I hope :|

I'd really like to stay up long enough to actually finally see Santa this year. I always fall asleep right before he comes down my damn chimney. Oh yea - Id like a new pair of footy pajamas too, mine are from 6th grade and its looking more like some man-pris with a corset on top.

If I do finally see santa, I'm gonna ask him if he would rather have a beer over milk and cookies. Maybe we can shoot the ****.
