I don't know how it is down there. But here in border town USA, mexican food IS marinated meat. You get a burrito or taco, whether it's beef, pork, chicken or fish, it's 90% meat. I just can't imagine replacing 3/4 of a pound of juicy marinated carne asada, topped with cilantro and onions and spritzed with lime juice with 3/4 of a pund of beans on a tortilla thats been microwaved and called a 'veggie burrito'. Thanks, but no thanks.

I personally think Vegan's are ****ed in the head. More power to them, I'm glad you're happy I just think your cognitive abilitys are severly in jeopardy. We've got in our office, I call her egg plant, and we've made a ritual of her telling me what non-vegan food she tried to eat at some function that made her feel like she had appendicitis; an egg, wine, yogurt.

These are of course coupled with an argument from me to the effect of "don't you think that is going to hurt when, say, you're on a road trip or you've have to jump to safety from a plummeting airplane?" I'm hoenstly shocked the Vegan's haven't found a way to preach against air travel yet.

To clarify a point, I'm not a "meat is wonderful, lets make jokes about how eating steak makes me a man" type person, I think Vegetarianism makes sense and is better for the enviornment than driving a hybrid car. I think its also one of the smartest economic choices going. But I still think Veganism is part in parcel with this evangelical fury because, as is always the case, they've found "the truth" and we're all just too dense to see the world for what it is.

For many reasons, I buy local, and when I buy meat, I buy it from Whole Foods because they've at least got standards are are looking to drive toward helping the little guy, and keeping things local. If you don't like the system, as Conan has said previously, I can understand that, I just don't see how it translates to not opting into a decent, healthy system.

Meat is as important in a diet as anything else and anyone who totally neglects it is really stupid because there are many dishes that contain meat and taste really great.

Why miss out on that ? you're healthier this way? and you really thing that vegetables aren't chemically processed...

fruits are sprayed over with some **** that makes them hard as a rock and transported to other countries, then they spray them with another thing that reverses the first one and that's how you get your Spanish whatever and all that.

This completely trashy system makes it pretty much impossible to live a perfectly healthy life, so you might as well enjoy everything as much as you can instead of creating arrogant ideas and principles to live by.

This whole statement is ridiculous. I don't even know how to reply to it.

Veganism isn't even mainly a perspective based on health considerations. Even if it was, no one is going to argue that there aren't other factors negatively impacting health in any possible scenario. Simply acknowledging that some things a person does may be unhealthy doesn't mean more unhealthy acts should be pursued with reckless abandon.

I'm pretty sure they enjoy their own principles. I think the basis of their principles are asinine, but I don't think any one of us are in a position to negate their personal choice. What I do think is arrogant is that your entire argument is based on personal perspective and you expect everyone else to adhere to it. Which is pretty much what you're condemning in the first place, which makes you... wait, I'll give you a few seconds for anticipation purposes and theatrical buildup..... A hypocrite.

I'm neither a vegetarian nor a vegan... But I won't sit here and say my ideals are any better than theirs. The most I can do is create a reasonable argument to loosen the perspective of my meat-eating behavior. This does not include demonizing the perspectives of those who don't share my beliefs.

Fruit is hard when unripened and also stored at low temperatures, I never heard of fruit being sprayed to make it hard. Because insect ruins the crop, most fruits are sprayed with insecticide, but they wash off in the rain, so they spray fruit with "stickers" that enable the insectide to stick to the fruit. A problem with shipment of fruit in encloses trailors or shipment containors is ethylene gas (that hastens ripening), and and instead of the gas disapating the ethylene gasgets trapped in a trailor (that would ripen the fruit) so they use ethylene inhibitors. I never heard of fruit being sprayed with ethlene inhibitors, usually the inhibitor is kept in the trailor seperate from the fruit and isn't directly sprayed on the fruit, but with shipments overseas, I don't know if fruit are spray, anything is possible.

I'm not a vegetarian so I agree with you in that I would miss the meat, but I do like vegetables. Over here most burritos and tacos I've had are not 90% meat. It usually has meat as its main ingredient, but then fresh diced tomato, lettuce, cheese, avocado, stuff like that. I think it'd be boring if it were just 90% meat! But that's my personal opinion.

Black beans are a good substitute for meat in Mexican dishes, I find. But far more fattening. :(

But who can resist this:
Black bean and cheese quesodilla with guacamole, fresh tomatoes, sour cream and a side of pico de gayo.

Edit: Besides Vegans and lactose intolerant people.

If we're talking about cruelty, pigs get to run for their lives while zucchini can't do **** ;)

Seriously though, I've been entertaining the idea of going vege for a while just for the hell of it... well veges would argue that it's meat-eaters who end up in hell but that's quite beside the point. In the past couple of years, I've come to enjoy a good salad as much as a hearty steak.

Not too long ago I was treated to some fantastic Indian vegetarian food... vegetarian cuisine is actually very popular over there (especially in the north). Spicy desserts and paneer are quite tasty. Not to mention lentils which are extremely healthy. Salivation aside, I still don't know how long I could last without meat. There are definitely enough restaurants around here that offer vege options. Hell, I could stick to a halal diet without too much trouble (speaking of which, a lady serving me at a pizza shop recently asked me whether I wanted the halal option :D).

Those aren't the reasons I was referring to. I was referring to people who say it's wrong to eat meat.

So no duh eating too much meat is unhealthy. It's all about moderation, that goes with just about everything.
