snow, with more to come

so today we've already had six inches of snow,...they say with another three or four to come

oddly enough,.....its my first snow with enough to make a snow man

frost bite be damned

LoathsomePete 02-11-2010 05:22 PM

My mum and step dad just left for Texas this morning to go get Dr. Pepper and have a romantic weekend away from me. I dropped them off at the airport this morning and I don't think they were equipped for the snow. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I hope you enjoy your first snowman, try and make it a Calvin & Hobbes styled one ;)

savannah 02-11-2010 05:25 PM

what part of texas? hope its not dallas,..but i'm afraid thats where you mean if they were goin to get dr pepper, as i think its the closest airport to dublin,......(oh i wish i were in austin, at the chili parlor bar,...drinkin mad dog margaritas and not careing where you are)

i've also learned that if i smoke enough,.....and drink enough,....i dont give a damn if my feet are soaking wet

LoathsomePete 02-11-2010 05:34 PM

Just wear a pair of your many, many boots. Last winter when Vancouver got hit with a couple feet of snow I was in my biker boots for about a month and a half.

As far as their destination, they flew to Houston then to Austin and rented a car from there. It sucked in Houston though because they had to sit at the terminal in the plane for about 3 hours while the road crews deiced the road, however apparently it's only raining in Austin.

savannah 02-11-2010 05:39 PM

they are in austin?

make sure they see the cathedral of junk,....it truly is one of my very favorite places on earth

though i should pull on a pair of boots,....i cant wait to go back out in it in the morning,...i hope its still fluffy

LoathsomePete 02-11-2010 05:42 PM

I just texted my mum the recommendation but I'm not sure if they're going to have the time considering they lost a few hours due to plane delays. I think my step dad expressed interest in seeing in, but it's hard to say what they'll do at this point.

savannah 02-11-2010 05:46 PM

if they go, they must stop and eat at hills, which is right across where you turn if you are on south congress,...i'm just sayin

LoathsomePete 02-11-2010 05:51 PM

I made the recommendation, whether or not it reaches them in time is in AT&T's hands.

Bitch, we had just about three feet of snowfall on the weekend and about another foot or so two days later... and I'm just sick of this ****ing snow.
It won't go away!!!

mr dave 02-11-2010 07:09 PM

funny, normally the snowbanks along my street are well above my waist and up over my shoulders at corners (i'm over 6 feet tall too), but this year they're barely above my knees.

thanks for redirecting the snow south suckers :p:

someonecompletelyrandom 02-11-2010 07:43 PM

No snow. Just drizzly, drippy weather in Houston.

Freebase Dali 02-12-2010 10:57 AM

It snowed today in Louisiana (Lafayette area, as far as I know)

I live about 20 miles from school, so I got in my car this morning and it was raining... So I'm driving... la la la... Suddenly...

...EXTREME AMOUNTS OF SNOW BFEMWOEIFNONWEO!!!!FTW!!!

Dude, these snowflakes were averaging silver-dollar size.
I get to school, go inside to piss, come out.. and all the snow is gone. :( X10

I didn't get to make a snow man.
Not even a snow anything.
We can only have imaginary snow men here. Fashioned from the failed hopes, dreams, and tears of snowmenless cajuns.

mr dave 02-12-2010 03:27 PM

^ snow flakes only get that big when the air temperature is just below freezing. odds are it was melting just as fast as it hit the ground.

it actually can't snow when it gets too cold.

Oh man I nearly pissed myself.

Nah, but I did hear like 50 thousand people say that it's the Saints' fault it was snowing in Louisiana because hell froze over and caused an unnatural climate change.

Cadrian 02-12-2010 07:37 PM

Its snowing like hell here too... I havent seen it like this in a long time.

about 6 inchs so far I am thinking there will be like 10 inchs by morning.

I took pics but I cant find the adapter for the computer.

Its snowing in Louisiana is REALLY ****ing crazy though. We see snow like every 3 years for Louisiana its like what every 15 years?

Freebase Dali 02-12-2010 07:44 PM

I think it snowed 3 times in 3 months recently. A record for us.
Last time I remember it snowing here was when I was a kid, but I can't account for 9 years of time that I didn't live here. But it's safe to say it doesn't snow often.

kafkaandcoffee 02-12-2010 07:56 PM

altogether i think we've gotten two feet in the past two weeks and it hasn't melted at all.

I'm jealous. I lived on a tropical island for years and didn't have to deal with seasons. I hate seasons. Some people complained about the weather never changing, but I loved it. I prefer consistency...you know...one less thing in the world to worry about. Whereas here I have to make sure I have proper winter wear, snow tires, shovels, and not to mention I freeze my balls off just to grab a smoke. Lame.

That's too bad. Snow can be a hassle sometimes like anything but I can't imagine living my whole life without ever having seen it.

Nothing is quite as calming as looking out into the night as the snow gently falls, the lights reflecting off the already fallen snow and bouncing back off the clouds.

Yup. And there's nothing like walking around in it either. I went out toward the end of the snow storm this past wednesday and my very urban neighborhood was so uncharacteristically quiet and still that it was pretty striking.

Cadrian 02-13-2010 09:02 AM

I hate snow.... Nobody in South Carolina knows how to drive in it, Including me. plus we dont have anything to deal with it. They throw some sand on the streets but besides that there isnt anything to take care of it.

On the other hand... I really enjoy how it quiets everything outside. All sounds are muffled by it, so it seems just peaceful outside.

Bane of your existence 02-13-2010 10:36 AM

Yeah, this is what it looked like outside my apartment.

Also, I'm moving to Austin in two weeks. I'm going to steal all the recommendations in this thread.

Heh - Hill's Cafe is across the street from my neighborhood.
The Junk Cathedral is nearby and there are plenty of smaller but naturally occuring junk displays in peoples' yards around the area.

FETCHER. 02-13-2010 04:41 PM

I'm currently just back from a trip up north, the snow was soo lovely. I couldn't believe actually how snowy it was :D I like snow, but I hated it when it was in Glasgow for over a month. I'd hate to have never seen snow, or never thrown a snowball, or never made a snowman, the losing out is endless :(

SATCHMO 02-13-2010 05:04 PM

...As I sit here in Maine snickering.

storymilo 02-13-2010 05:35 PM

I read about the Junk Cathedral on keepaustinweird.com. What's the deal with Hill's?

i love hill's and have eatin there since i was a kid

bane, its been around since the late 40's
its got the best steaks around,...and the bakes sweet potatoes used to have this praline sauce on them that, once i mastered the recipie, has won me alot of those blue ribbons in county fairs and such
the patio area is really cool, and they normally have great music
i love hills

when you move you also have to make sure and eat at the magnolia cafe, south congress location (because of the beautiful tree in the back), and order the cornmeal and banana pancakes (i dream of those pancakes)

also, the museum of weird in the lizzard lounge? down the street from the driskill, is pretty cool if you've got some time to kill

there's a lady over by the campus that paints huge polka dots in her yard

antone's normally books some great bands

waterloo records over on lamar will become your best friend

beer + mangia pizza's carnivore + barton springs = the best date ive ever had

oat willie's

burgers from dirty's on gaudalupe

Bane of your existence 02-14-2010 01:01 AM

My apartment is going to be close to there, over by riverside. I'll make it over there. Is that the museum of the weird the one on 6th? Cause I've been there.

ElephantSack 02-14-2010 03:21 AM

Well, back to snow. Myrtle Beach got more than 3 inches of snow for the first time in 10 years at least. I had fun with it. It was great. Must suck to be one of you miserable fucks stuck in the icy hell. brutal ;)

I was Curious where you live in SC.... In Columbia we got about 7 Inches, I went and found a old ruler.

I guess it has been about 10 years since we got that foot of snow, which totally shut down the state for like a week.

We are suppose to see Flurries again today in the Midlands that wont stick... Doubt youll see anything in Myrtle.

sidewinder 02-15-2010 11:34 AM

I'm jealous of you people with snow. :( As said, it can be a hassle at times but it's truly beautiful and peaceful. And it makes life interesting, I enjoy the different seasons. Last year we got a whole bunch of snow, this year a whole bunch of nothing. Actually in the winter of 06-07 (my first in Seattle) we got a good amount too, but it only lasted a few days. Last winter it stayed about 2 weeks.
