I don't know if it was specific genres being popular as much as big albums in those genres. I remember in 2010 the albums that I remember inspired the most discussion on the forum were My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, High Violet, The Suburbs, and Innerspeaker.

I do agree that that trashy pop is what seems to drive the majority of the music discussion.
