Any suggestions?

Bars, Pubs? Soho sounded cool..

uuuuh, gee I don't know bill. I've checked the work, the math, and my answer 3 times over and all I keep getting is...

"**** english broads"

Is that not what you're getting?

If you like history and you have time during the day, visit the Tower of London and go on a Beefeater guided tour.

Night time, Camden or Soho.
If you're a millionaire, Notting Hill.

One thing you might not want to do is become a werewolf. Historically speaking,
some pretty bad things go down if the full moon's out dude.

I always thought Soho was a sleezy shit hole.

Maybe that's the appeal for you, I might be going to London sometime this year, if I can be bothered getting it organized.

LoathsomePete 03-09-2010 06:35 PM

Be sure to check out The Maple Leaf pub over on Maiden Lane, it's funny to see the Brits take on a Canadian style pub.

If it's a nice day rock out Hyde Park. If it's shopping you want rock out camden/brick lane/oxford street. If it's drinking you want rock out Ben Crouches just off Regent Street/ the Intrepid Fox on Tottenham Court Road/ The Good Ship in Kilburn. For eating go Ed's in Soho, amazing. If you want a night out, go to The Roxy.

I'd advise you check out Southbank, Canary Wharf, Camden, St James' Park and the Ancient City Centre too.

Steer clear generally of the East End - especially Bow, Stepney Green, Peckham, Mile End, Lewisham and the like. Roough as.

Vancouver 03-10-2010 12:23 PM

Awesome info..thanks. Any idea of decent Hotels around there? Soho or the like? Most are killer expensive on Trip Advisor...

Daktari 03-10-2010 02:43 PM

I would take a ride on the London Eye, if it's open at night and check out Covent Garden, there's usually some great street acts on around there and a good atmosphere..

Gordon.

littleknowitall 03-10-2010 04:35 PM

I never saw the appeal of the London eye, get pissed....it's the British thing to do.

jackhammer 03-10-2010 05:22 PM

I was down in London a few weeks back and Camden is definitely the place. Great pubs, attitude, stores and atmosphere. I had a ball.

I went on the london eye last year. and yes it is alright, but after being 1/4 way round its boring as you've already seen everything. and it takes a ****ing lifetime to go round. it is alright though, its just something i would do once, then definitely not do again.

How much was it (if ya don't mind me asking)?

FETCHER. 03-10-2010 06:41 PM

for an adult it was about 15ish pounds, and about 10 for a child. I think it was a little more for an adult though, this was last year too. I dont think prices have changed much though.

NSW 03-10-2010 06:49 PM

Dang...that's almost $24 US. Hope it's worth it to do once.

hissundaygirl09. 03-12-2010 03:45 PM

Freebase Dali 03-13-2010 10:47 PM

I think someone who lives nearby in this forum should opt to take you out to some spots.

Vancouver 03-14-2010 03:22 AM

That seems fair priced, They probably couldn't run it on any less. It just seemed a waste of money to me but I suppose it's a tourist attraction.

London has tons of attractions as it is though, does a big ferris wheel really pull any extra tourists to the city?

Manchester city centre has one of those big wheels too.
It's great...you can see 5 square miles of inner city slums from it. :/

Probably because he's one of those Americans who has his entire knowledge of Britain stemming from that episode of the Simpson's he saw and he actually believes that in saying '**** the queen' in the cobbled streets of merry ol England will rile up the villagers or be playing a risky game.

These are the same people when they ask where I from and I say "Wales" they go, "oh..is that in England?"

gogojessicat 03-24-2010 01:55 PM

give us a break people can't know everything.

To be fair, I'm English and don't recognise Wales as a proper country, just an oversized county.

Well, you really should be able to distinguish which countries comprise the UK. I mean, that's like seventh-grade material right there.

Although I do use "English" as a synonym for "British" from time to time. :D

gogojessicat 03-24-2010 09:43 PM

well there are a lot of things that Americans ought to be able to do and can't and I feel like them knowing where Wales is isn't really going to change the world.

But -- I had one night in London and I went to Leicester Square and saw a musical, then at night I went to Piccadilly Circus to some clubs then the 02 arena I think its called. It was a blast! partied until 9am! didn't even get to sleep in the hostel I paid for!

If there is one thing you Brits know how to do it's party!

also, Camden Town is fantastic. And try to fit in as many museums as possible. I really liked the Tate Modern and The British Museum.
ahhh everything about London is amazing.

littleknowitall 03-25-2010 07:23 PM

Men of Welsh decent who signed the declaration of independence - Francis Lewis, George Clymer, Stephen Hopkins, Robert Morris, William Floyd, Francis Hopkinson, John Morton, Britton Gwinnett, Thomas Jefferson, John Penn, George Read, John Hewes, James Smith, Williams Hooper, Lewis Morris, and William Williams. 16/56 isn't a bad shout.

We have the oldest language in Europe,

Famous Welsh people - Shirley Bassey, Tommy Cooper, Richard Burton, Catherine Zeta Jones, Rhys Ifans, Anthony Hopkins, Dawn French, Charlotte Church, Rhod Gilbert, Lee Evans, Dylan Thomas.

Bands/ Artists - Manic Street Preachers, Funeral For a friend, Stereophonics, Catatonia, Richie Blackmore, Feeder, Goldie Lookin Chain, Lost Prophets, Kids In Glass Houses, The Blackout, Super Furry Animals.

I'm just thinking considering the United Kingdom is only made out of 4 countries, it shouldn't be too hard to remember the names of them. Should it?

Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales. That's all it is!!!
