Explorer, Firefox, Safari?

Just wondering which one is most popular with the community. I prefer Explorer, and I think Safari is sh*t. Tell me what you think.

Sansa Stark 03-19-2010 09:33 PM

I use Opera.

gunnels 03-19-2010 09:36 PM

Firefox yo.

Safari and sometimes Firefox for me.

And I know Explorer is shit. ;)

Alfred 03-19-2010 09:42 PM

Explorer is absolutely awful.

What do you find so awful? And which would you suggest instead?

The biggest problem with Explorer is that it's by far the least compliant with web standards out of all the major browsers. That's crappy in and of itself but also, because it comes free with the world's most popular operating system, it's very widely used and that means the code for most sites has to be filled with hacks just to accommodate this poorly-designed browser.

Firefox is really the way to go. I believe it's the most compliant or one of the most compliant of all browsers.

gunnels 03-19-2010 10:04 PM

who the hell keeps putting 'the stone roses are sh*t' in the tags?

Ive used Firefox at school and thats usually my choice on Macs but I just dont have the inclination or the memory to download it.

I still have firefox and use it for the tumblr thingy, and there's a sweet bill cosby skin you can get for it

storymilo 03-19-2010 11:13 PM

I use firefox. went with google chrome for a while, but out of nowhere it started failing so I tried opera, but realized I prefer firefox.

i'm just glad that this forum finally learned how to use the tag system. remember when all the tags actually used to be relevant to the thread?

Freebase Dali 03-20-2010 02:29 AM

I haven't used Safari, but I like Firefox in that there's so much detailed customization available. For instance, if you type about:config in your URL bar and hit enter, and just start scrolling down that list, you'll get the idea of how intimately you can tweak Firefox.
Not sure if other major browsers let you dig that deep by default.. Never had that chance with IE, and never used Safari. Resisted Chrome because I just never felt the need to switch from Firefox.

Firefox's addons are pretty cool too. There's a lot of useful stuff out there.

SATCHMO 03-20-2010 03:18 AM

FIrefox because it's comfortable like and old pair of shoe, safari because it's fast, but a little problematic, and Chrome, because, well, it's just pretty damn badass

stormjh 03-20-2010 03:27 AM

Chrome here, I've not got much use for the customisation of firefox (too lazy), I prefer how chrome looks, and using safari at uni, it seems really slow.

NumberNineDream 03-20-2010 03:31 AM

I use Opera. IE is definitely shit.
I use Safari just to check my email, it works better for me that way.

Firefox is average imo, I have encountered some problems with it, but still better than IE by far.

Burning Down 03-20-2010 07:20 AM

I use Firefox rather than Safari or Internet Destroyer. An occasional problem that I have with Firefox is that it might crash in the middle of a browsing session. Otherwise I think it's a great program and it should just come free with Windows and Mac instead of the crap they come with.

Dr.Seussicide 03-20-2010 07:31 AM

What kind of a shit list is that? I use my netbook most of the time in school, so Chrome's my weapon of choice. Light weight and efficient FTMFW.

That one made me laugh. Ok you guys convinced me Im getting Firefox today. I didnt know about this customization option, sounds cool.

noise 03-20-2010 08:58 AM

firefox, no contest.

i can't operate without adblock, flashgot, gmail manager, quickdrag, redirect remover, and the awesome tineye plugin.

makes my browser slow as piss to start up, but browsing is very efficient :)

Larrymusicbuff46 03-20-2010 09:20 AM

I am a Firefox user, having a few days ago just upgraded to version 3.6.

Jim

bubu 03-20-2010 11:00 AM

Firefox is slow but very cool.. I find internet explorer really fast if all I want a quick search on google or something along the lines

Zer0 03-20-2010 04:02 PM

I use Chrome most of the time, it's by far the most efficient web browser. My second choice is Opera which i use the odd time but Chrome is just simpler to use.

Whats so great about it anyway? On the commercials they advertise being able to go to sites and search in the same address box, but IE does that too, and has been for longer than Chrome has been around.

Freebase Dali 03-20-2010 06:27 PM

If you use Firefox and you'd like to see about tweaking it for speed, faster network performance, etc... here's a link you should check out:

Yes but the current version of IE is lagging way behind the others in terms of speed. Microsoft are determined to change that though when they fully release IE 9, i guess we'll see what happens. I just find Chrome to be the fastest and most reliable for browsing, and it hardly ever freezes on me.

Huh. Is it customizable and all that?

Scarlett O'Hara 03-20-2010 10:12 PM

Ah hello? Google Chrome anyone?

Arya Stark 03-21-2010 12:37 AM

I was having a lot of problems with Internet Explorer, so I downloaded Firefox.
Chrome is another browser, right?
Anything special?

Seltzer 03-21-2010 02:01 AM

I've used FF since it came out and I have no complaints with it now that the bad old days of memory leaks are behind us. I used Opera a long time ago (2002 I think) so I have no idea what it's like nowadays. I've yet to try Chrome.

I'd like to have a look at the FF source sometime and have a fiddle with it, but it's so customisable that there's no need. :D

No idea but imagine trying to develop an add-on for IE... M$ would most likely force you to use their proprietary software.

Firefox but less ugly and without the bloat.

Zarko 03-21-2010 07:29 AM

I use FF, too bad the thing is still a ****ing pig (Though that might have to do with all the add-ons :p:)

Chrome is FF without the 3rd party support.

stormjh 03-21-2010 08:19 AM

You realise there's plenty of plugins and stuff for chrome now right? I'm running it with adblock.

iron9567 03-21-2010 03:50 PM

i use firefox myself IE is a p.o.s

sidewinder 03-21-2010 05:50 PM

I'd been using Firefox for the past 2-3 years at home and at work, but I recently switched to Chrome at home. Firefox was just giving me too many problems...it was occasionally crashing and was taking up way too much memory most of the time. Sometimes it would just get bogged down, I finally got fed up. Chrome is leaner, though there are a few things I miss about Firefox.

I'm not saying there aren't any add-ons, but FF has a heckuva lot more.

jackhammer 03-21-2010 06:05 PM

I have used Opera for around 4 years now and find it unfussy and full of easy features although I seem to be having a damn problem with youtube vids but only direct from the site. FF plays them fine and I use that as back up. IE is absolutely useless.

TheReverend 03-21-2010 06:48 PM

Who went crazy on the tags? "I sh*t stone roses" rofl
