This is starting to resemble the Sexual Experience thread, slightly.

NumberNineDream 03-29-2010 09:17 PM

Well I do feel we just created 2 extra "sexual experience" threads, and assigned one to the males, and the other to females.

Psshhh, if you wanna spend ten bucks. Bar of soap is like 50 cents.

Arya Stark 03-29-2010 10:30 PM

I never thought soap was an option.

It's not. I could never imagine using soap. Trust me, spend the ten bucks, get the lube. Preferably water based.

I'm not really into anal.
I've never done it, so I can't shoot it down, but it doesn't appeal to me.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. I've turned a few girls into believers.

This is turning into the Sexual Experience Thread...

Yeah that's what I meant, I can't really knock it.
I just can't imagine it feeling good to girls.

Wait, actually I might make some socks as well, knitting and crocheting seems pretty nifty.

Changing the topic from sex, I have a couple comments related to handicrafts (which actually kind of relate to sex, too).

Beginning around 2 years before I had my child until 3 years afterwards, I was struck to my surprise by what I call my "nesting phase" of life. This nesting phase culminated in me designing a partially passive solar home with universal design (accommodating people of all ages including those in wheel chairs).

Once the house was built (all by men, incidentally...so I have always argued that men are *very* into home stuff), I purchased a sewing machine, learned to sew, and started sewing all sorts of things for the house! I was buying fabrics left and right and making pillows and drapes and even a little cover for a tissue box, ha ha! You know you're in a nesting phase when you start making covers for tissue boxes.:p:

I expended quite a bit of this nesting effort in my child's bedroom (see below). Then, when my child was around 3, as mysteriously as my nesting phase started, it faded away rather abruptly. So now I have all these unfinished sewing and house projects but no motivation to do them.

One such lingering project is the kitchen drapes I planned to hem. I've been staring at them now for months where they hang, with the hem tacked up with many dangerous pins, but I observe the pins inches from my dish-washing hands and think, "Meh, pins work."

I think back on my nesting phase with some amusement and bewilderment, now, but I know it happened because I am literally surrounded by the aftereffects. Here is evidence. In this room, below, you see curtains I made, an orange pillow case I made, a yellow quilted wall-hanging I made (it has a cute Winnie-the-pooh print on the side you can't see!), and a cloth liner for the tray. I was into yellow stripes, because my child likes yellow, and I like stripes. Even the little photo has yellow striped fabric in place of matboard! Finding the striped cotton floor rug took months!

I just thought I should warn all you people...you may not think it could ever happen (I didn't), but you...yes even YOU, AwwSugar...could someday find yourself sewing tray liners or covers for cardboard tissue boxes. Scary, but true.

I'm familiar with that phase, when you are addicted to going to craft stores and Home Depot.

Right now I'm in my farmer's market/cooking phase. I seek out different markets in the area (I'm in Los Angeles, we're spoiled here) and buy fresh fruit, veggies and bread, go straight home and start cooking.

Arya Stark 03-30-2010 10:05 AM

Worst topic change ever.

 Bingo! I used to go to Lowe's Home store and linger in the toilet aisle gazing fondly at different toilets, thinking which would be ideal! I went to a fabric store often and scanned through piles of on-sale bolts, hoping to find the perfect fabric for some project.

Ha ha! I had that phase, too, annapurna. I was part of a veggie coop where you purchase a share of local farmers' produce, and then end up with something like 37 beets all at one time, wondering what to do with them! I hardly cook now at all, if I can help it.

Oh but it was, Burning Down! The transition from sex to handicrafts is very straightforward.

First it finally hits you after years of never considering it...hey, I'd like to have a child (which involves sex)! Next, before you know it, you're fantasizing about where to put the diaper genie and a changing table, and what colors and images to surround your child with to maximize love and joy and comfort, and how to live safely in a house with sharp corners and stairs.

And then before you know it, you are in a full-blown nesting phase (see post several above)...and the love of your life is a tiny, little bald fellow!
