One implies greed, while the other only requires being concerned with their career. There may be any number of reasons why somebody would be concerned with their career besides simply collecting a paycheck, reasons that would not necessarily be as petty as money. Saying it's just for a paycheck is a misleading oversimplification.

but see the bolded section makes me want to ask the nazi question again. i know people like to just dismiss any comparison of anything to nazis... but i honestly don't see how 'enforcing the rules of society' is a principle in and of itself yet somehow that logic doesn't apply to ****ed up societies like life under the nazi regime

nah... not really. a career is basically just the way you support yourself/make money, when you really get down to it. you're just applying a negative tone to doing things for money that i wasn't even suggesting, probably based on your own moral upbringing or whatever

Sounded like you were the one either intentionally or unintentionally giving it a negative connotation as a way to level an accusation against someone. Regardless, you're still oversimplifying. A career is not necessarily JUST a way to make money. There's personal fulfillment for doing a job that you find worth doing, prestige in successfully advancing in your chosen field, just the satisfaction of doing a good job, and probably other motivations that I can't think of off the top of my head. Saying that it ultimately only boils down to money just makes it sound like you lack the imagination or motivation to take anything from a job other than what you can materially gain from it.

Then challenge it. You're just making yourself look like a wasted jackass right now.
