even Ki is at a loss when I'm babbling about things I love.

we love a lot of the same bands but his knowledge of the 70s is really minimal.

and he won't even give me a chance to remedy that problem.

so I share everything with him but still I'm 100% martian.

when I talk to people about things I love (even apart from music or film or whatever) I assume they're thinking "aww, cute, it's trying to communicate"

Nah, I have that problem too, and I've never gotten that feeling from people. It's more of a "I feel bad I don't know what you're talking about." feeling I get. I know it's not really good to do, but I gave up trying to talk to people about the music I'm into, mainly because I don't think anyone knows half of what the hell I listen too. I once was talking about Aphex Twin because the topic of electronic music came up, and only one person knew who that was. I was a little stunned, well, maybe not just a little, but come on, how do you not know who Aphex is?

I know I'm going on a tangent here, but is it wise to not talk about something someone doesn't know about, isn't that how we find out about new things? I've been thinking with the internet and all, it's really easy to just ignore people in real life to go find a community on a forum to satisfy your need for people with similar interests. It feels like we're becoming more and more like a race of bubble men/women.

Feeling your pain, man. Someone I work with recently asked me what I listen to, and since I just don't have the energy to deal with that particular person (or many other people who talk too much and think too little) I just sort of babbled off what I've been listening to lately, and I dropped some names - Strawberry Alarm Clock, Electric Prunes, T. Rex... and I kid you not, the kid was like "are you even saying words right now?" (he literally said that) and I thought to myself "LOL YEP THIS CONVERSATION IS OVER, GET LOST, BYE"

Someone should seriously just put us away forever.

I relate to that both with music and my other primary interest.

I have another sort of sad confession: I have a hard time enjoying the company of people whose musical taste is unsatisfactory. And my opinion of people changes based on whether or not they can follow when I namedrop my favorite bands/songs/albums.

I also harshly judge young people who don't have an appreciation for history and antiques.
