Just an obvious suggestion, but everyone should put a title to their pieces, so that the voting round would be much simpler.

I thought that was obvious, all the pieces that have been sent have titles as far as I know.

I know a lot of the times when I do short stories, etc, I leave the title for last. And sometimes forget. So just a slight reiteration.

At this point I might not even be competing in my own competition. Can't think of anything.

Normally when I can't think of anything, I just write about something interesting I experienced once. Your thoughts would flow pretty easily, so it'll be simple to express emotions, etc. It'll seem more real too, you should try it.

I usually work the other way around.. the title usually comes to me first then I branch off from there so I always have a title majority of the time.

This.

It also helps to just rant about something that really pisses you off, or something that inspires you. If you're passionate about something, the main idea will be easy to write and you can just go back and do any necessary editing and format some creativity into it, or even adapt the narrative to an unlikely 3rd person protagonist, like a dog, or an inanimate object. Just experiment and see what you can come up with.
Also, something really simple can be transformed by the creative use of crafty metaphors and such.

Just please don't try to turn something dull into something exciting by using adjectives. I'm going to come off as a prick by saying this but that's always the case with people who think they can write but can't.

He got the wet and sticky glue all over his hands.

Of course the glue was sticky, it's glue!
