Music Banter Creative Writing Competition

Anyone be interested in this?
We would be given a deadline to write a short story, when finished you pm it to me and i'll post it in the thread where it can be discussed. When they are all collected we will make a poll and after a week or so the story with the most votes will win.
It could be good fun and interesting to see other people's stories. No real rules or criteria yet as I need to see if there is any interest.

Yes

Terrible Lizard 01-12-2011 04:34 PM

Why not, it's not like we're on a music forum or anything.

This, except less sarcastic.

Well lyrics count too, I'm sure.
I know you were being sarcastic or whatever, but just saying.

Dotoar 01-12-2011 05:01 PM

I wanna say yes, but then I'm afraid I'll have to write something.

Good idea Jimbo.

Scarlett O'Hara 01-12-2011 05:42 PM

Yip I'm interested!

Paedantic Basterd 01-12-2011 09:29 PM

It would be interesting if it was displayed anonymously, then there was a reveal for who wrote what.

This. In my creative writing classes we usually hand in pieces anonymously. It makes it fun.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-12-2011 09:49 PM

I agree with Pedestrian and storymilo, that would make things pretty interesting.
And you can count me in!

SATCHMO 01-12-2011 09:56 PM

Great Idea set up the details and the deadline. I don't know what the Max amount of characters in a single post is. I know there's a limit, but it might serve as a length limitation for folks who are poppin' off short stories or essays instead of poetry n' stuff, Or you could just post links to the documents.

I think it's something in the order of 4,000. It used to be 2,000 I believe, but our request to double it was granted by the admin a while back.

Ghost 01-12-2011 10:59 PM

Sounds like a good idea to me!

Dirty 01-13-2011 01:30 AM

This seems pretty cool. Do it anonymously. I wanna show off my skillz.

Arya Stark 01-13-2011 02:05 AM

Well the **** will have to be sent in to someone on the site, right? How can it be anonymous?

Scissorman 01-13-2011 02:08 AM

I'm pretty good in Serbian, but I'd probably suck in English.

Bulldog 01-13-2011 02:16 AM

I don't really care if it's anonymous or not. This is a great idea regardless, and one I'm definitely up for.

Stone Birds 01-13-2011 06:31 AM

sure

Everyone can upload their story to a shared mediafire folder maybe. That's what I would do.

Yeah, that 2,000 word limit was really starting to cramp VEGANGELICA's style.

I don't see why they can't just send me it, I will refrain from voting to avoid bias.

Anyway
Rules
You can write anything you like be it a short story, a poem or a scene from a play. Anything. The content of the story can be about anything too as long as it's not too offensive and isn't stolen. It is preferred if the piece is less than 4000 words but I'm sure that is plenty.

You have until Monday the 7th of February to complete the story but a few extra days can be rewarded if needed. Once the piece is completed you send it to me via PM. I will then post them in a separate thread but without mentioning names. A poll will be added and after a week of polling the winner will be announced. Anyone can participate in the thread.

storymilo 01-13-2011 10:04 AM

Maybe we could also say who submitted pieces, and then people can guess who submitted what? Like the compilation thread.

I was thinking that at first, but some people don't want people to know that they wrote things I guess.

Bulldog 01-13-2011 10:27 AM

Coolness.

I'll get cracking on this fairly soon...

PM limit is 5,000 characters, about 1,000 words, which is very short, even for flash fiction. Anyone interested in writing anything longer will need to send multiple PMs or a link to an offsite document.

Yeah, I said prefer because you can go over it. Just means it'll have to be a link in the thread. There is no character limit really. Hadn't realised it was so few words, I think most of them will be over that so we will have to use an offsite location.

EDIT: pastebin.com would work for a offsite location.

Well, 4,000 words, about 20,000 characters is pretty adequate for these purposes. I think for the sake of making things a bit more organized and easier on you, we should designate pastebin.com as the site for everyone to upload their material to.

Sounds good. Thanks for the help man.

Stone Birds 01-13-2011 03:43 PM

hmm i'm debating on whether or not to use a short story or an excerpt from novel i've been working on.

James 01-17-2011 09:32 AM

4 pieces submitted so far! Keep them coming!

Exo 01-19-2011 01:05 PM

Make it 5.

Freebase Dali 01-19-2011 05:12 PM

How many pieces is one individual allowed to submit?

Pretty sure it's just one.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-19-2011 07:43 PM

I'm pacing myself, personally.

djchameleon 01-20-2011 12:41 AM

I just finally started mines yesterday but I might only be able to submit part of it....I feel like it might get a little out of control and be longer than I expected it to be.

I was going with just one per person.

Bulldog 01-20-2011 05:03 AM

I've started one, but I'm not sure I like how it's panning out to be honest.

Either way, I'll do my best to submit something over the weekend.

You still have a couple of weeks, so don't rush :)
