I hate when albums start off with a ****ty song or end with a ****ty song. That not only grinds my gears, but also makes me want to throw whatever listening device I have at a ****ing wall.

I don't mind when they end with a ****ty song, because by then I'm usually ready to turn it off anyway since I don't have the greatest attention span. When it starts with a ****ty song though that definitely bugs me. I could love the entirety of the rest of the album, but that one bad song that starts the whole thing off just gives a bad impression from the word go and taints the whole rest of the ablum. Sure I could skip the song, but it would still be in the back of my mind that I had to skip the very first song on the album.

No I'd agree with Slow Groove. I want the last track on the album to be good, because whatever happens it's going to be the one I'm humming in my head after the album is over, and if it's not a good one then I'm going to have a bad representative view of the whole thing.

When you say the last track of an album, do you mean an actual song, or filler? I don't really care if an album ends on a throwaway, because that tends to include some humorous dialogue, or a recording that gives more insight in to who the musician is. It's almost like a prize in the bottom of a box of cereal.

I don't really consider, for instance, "The last straw" on Marillion's "Clutching at straws" as the last track, as it's just Fish moaning "NO!" and some devilish laughter. That doesn't ruin the album for me. It's when the last song, if you like, is really bad and sounds like either they ran out of ideas or else someone thought it would be best to stick the track at the end.

That I can understand. I especially hate it when artists use the first track on the album, reverse it, and stick it on the end of an album in an attempt to pad it out. The Soft Moon's "Zeros" does this, and I may like the album a lot, but it pisses me off that it ends the on such a lazy attempt of a song. Sure, it's a neat premise, but damn is it boring and overtly pretentious.

Not sure what you mean about "reversing the first track"? I'm just talking about a weak closer, some crappy thing that doesn't stand up to the quality on the rest of the album. I'm actually trying to think of examples but all that comes to mind at the moment is Journey's "Trial by fire"...

I've begun to notice that immediately when I wake up in the mornings, I have a song stuck in my head. Well, not immediately, but by the time I reach the shower, at least. I was not listening to music during the night. Probably not really all that much before bed either.

What annoys me about this is that it's never good music. It's always something I heard in passing a few days prior, like a radio jingle or the backing to some internet video, or a song playing in the car of someone passing by.

I realize that we all have moments where we get sh*t music stuck in our heads, much to our disgust, however I really feel screwed when it's the first thing I think about in the morning, when I'm generally already pissed off for having to be up in the first place.

This happen to anyone else?
