okay I got ya.

Well what I do is I take my player with me everywhere but if I'm with friends, I will just leave one ear piece in and the other out so that I can still talk to them and hear music at the same time. I lower the volume a bit also.

I still talk to them and be social but I get to hear music too.

That's the problem, multi-tasking when you're hanging out with someone is, generally speaking, rude.

depending on your friends though.

One time, two of my friends came over and we were each on our own laptop, having a conversation while watching The Butterfly Effect 2 on tv or attempting to.

lol We kept asking each other if they caught what was going on in the movie.

It all depends on the type of friends you have. With my friends it's perfectly fine to do this and isn't rude.
