Damn I've had a smart phone since day one of the droid back when that came out. I waited in line to be one of 9 people on camp lejeune with the new droid. The store only had 9 phones and I stood in line for one.

My new Google Pixel 7 Pro charges funky, doesnt start charging when I plug it in. I need to learn whats up with that

I bought a Droid in 2020 coming back from NYC, because a pair of Duane Reade headphones bricked my old one. Had it since. Probably need an upgrade by kids, you know? Why would I get a new cellphone when we need a 45th spring outfit for the baby.

I think it was some of those headphones that let you mute the call, turn up/down the volume, yada yada. I think it tried to communicate to the phone too many things at once. But that's just a guess.

Bricking a device is most often a result of interrupting an attempt to update the device. Many devices have an update procedure which must not be interrupted before completion; if interrupted by a power failure, user intervention, or any other reason, the existing firmware may be partially overwritten and unusable.
