Is reform a lost cause? Is atheism the only solution? How can these cultures hang hang on to a healthy identity while abandoning this idiotic belief system?

That's all and well but when you continually ignore other explanations that paint a clearer portrait of the situation, some might say that your "denial of the causal relationship is intellectual dishonesty."

Others might tell you that correlation and causation are by no means equivalent and that it is intellectually dishonest to suggest that they are without more to bring to the table.

Who is making excuses for Islam? It's built on a bunch of fucked up shit and no small amount of violence, like most religions. People have been inspired to do horrible things in the name of it. I think all people are saying to you is that the world is a complicated place and simply harping on the badness of a religion isn't very productive.

It's more productive than ignoring the truth of the matter.

The truth of the matter is that the world is a complicated place.

True I guess. So far, he has yet to express any condolences though.

Still others might just say you have your fingers in your ears (or somewhere else) and refuse to listen...

I think it's plenty to bring to the table. The footing is as sure as obesity and diabetes.
