I know Phil Schaap has been in poor health recently.

Idk

The website has info how to donate. Re: Phil Schaap, on one of Coltrane’s birthday broadcasts he was talking, lecturing I should probably say to be correctly respectful, about the importance of familiarizing oneself with Coltrane’s early material. I know it probably sounds really melodramatic but I felt profoundly moved by what he was saying. It helped me put Coltrane’s entire career into a singular perspective.

RIP Venture Bros

Though it may be resurrected somewhere else, they had already started working on a new season.

Silver Apples’ Simeon Coxe Dead at 82

Frownland 09-09-2020 08:59 AM

RIP, it's insane how ahead of his time he was.

I saw him doing a solo Silver Apples tour when he was promoting Clinging to a Dream. He had a stage full of electronics and a laptop (see below), he put a lot more energy into his performance than I expected.

As he was performing You & I for the closer, he started stuttering, took a step back and fainted. It looked like he fell right on his head. The room slowed and after a minute, they turned down the speakers (the equipment was still rolling) and turned on the lights. Staff came onstage to help him and people started leaving. Some of us were shocked as **** and stayed. After a couple of minutes of coming to and drinking some water, he got up as the staff and his wife (I think) led him offstage. He refused and went back up to finish the show like a boss.

A couple of faves:

That’s some great music history Frown

RIP

:( A massively influential artist and gentle man. Great story, Frown - glad you stuck by Simeon. Silver Apples's first two albums hold permanent place among my favorite albums of all time.

Yes, I think so too (became a bit dizzy watching it, having had only about 2 hrs sleep last night. The joys of working remotely 'round the clock. ;))

That's really wonderful music, I had never heard of them before.
And I can imagine those visuals make you dizzy if you're sleep deprived  they're mesmerising

Here's a good article imo, if you're interested in reading about Silver Apples. https://recordcollectormag.com/articles/first-contact

(And I'm no longer sleep deprived, although still a bit dizzy.)
