Now that there are no more original members left in the band, I guess Lynyrd Skynyrd has finally become a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band.

A second plane has hit Skynyrd.

RIP Jerry Samuels (Napoleon XIV) who reportedly passed today.

Jerry was famous for his long-standing hit, "They're Coming To Take Me Away, HA-HAAA!", a fan favorite on The Doctor Demento Show.

Pictured are my copies of his 1966 debut LP featuing the hit as well as my 7" novelty single with "!ɒɒɒH-ɒH ,γɒwA ɘM ɘʞɒT oT ϱnimoƆ ɘɿ'γɘ⑁T" printed on the b-side (which appropriately plays the song in reverse).

Aw, RIP.

I still remember the first time I heard that song. We were on a road trip for a family vacation in 1999 and frantically searching for a radio station once our local ones were no longer reachable. We tuned to a station that was playing the song and I remember my initial reaction being "what the hell is this" but it being captivating and mesmerizing all the same.

My sister, who was only 7 at the time, was terrified.

Not to mention a nice piece of Zappaesque psychedelia.
