BUT

I read through a good bit of the frontpage there, and liked an idea or two (for example, Mac's iPods/etc. create a have/have-not class break even though they're just phones/mp3 players)

It seems like the author sometimes writes a good thought hidden between paragraphs of hate speech ... I think he tries to 'scare people away'

If anyone needs any real reason to hate America, go to a mall in a suburban area on a Friday.

There are some things that i don't like at America, but on that crappy blog there wasn't any of them. Mostly political reasons.

I'm very critical of America as a whole, in general, however, I absolutely take individuals on a case by case basis. I just always lean Devil's Advocate when a discussion comes up that I'm on the fence about.

EDIT: Upon reading the first homophobic slur in this blog, I have settled on the following stance: This dude is a massive fuckstain.

I've always felt that America gets a bad rap. Theres never much talk of the good things that The USA does for The World community. Sure the US has issues with politics, what country doesn't.

Out of everything there that bothered me the most.

Why would they go and talk about the good things when they want to keep the US's rep as some villain towards the world?

The good things won't sell newspapers or get people to tune into broadcasts.

They know that their audience rather bash on America as a whole so they feed into it by only reporting the negatives

why does it have to be so centralised to America only?

most of the reasons can apply to just about any country:- fast food, smoking, obsequious public figures, youth, drugs, activism, right-wing exremists, etc

don't you know every single country in the world hates America because we cause all the wars and stuff

there are also wars which have nothing to do with you all

fast food originating here is much worse than American franchises in terms of nutritional value, e.g. Marrybrown, Kaiser, etc.

and I can tell you the police and judiciary are much worse here

if he thinks American movies are bad, he should watch some Malaysian movies

We shouldn't exercise out right to freedom of speech when the government engages in imperialism, corruption, and panders to whatever interest group happens to be politically trendy at the time because we are allowed to complain and bitch?

Is it just me, or does Hitler look kinda hot in that pic? Not in general, just that pic.

Why shouldn't we be allowed to exercise that right? My point is that some people take the rights we do have for granted not that we should just turn a blind eye to whatever the government is doing.

Would you rather we just blindly believe that America is always good and right? A little bit of ungratefulness is a small price to pay for actually mistrusting your government (which is as it should be).

I realize what you're saying. You want the best of both worlds. Be grateful for your rights, while still being aware of your country's faults.

I'm saying this is impossible. People are idiots. If they're grateful for their rights, it's because they're not questioning their government.

If they are grateful for their rights then they are using them to change what they don't agree with about their government, through means of protesting, contacting their senators, etc.

Instead of just saying America is crap I'm moving to Canada because it's the best country in the world

One's views on the government and the country are going to be linked. If we're taking an honest look at our government, and finding out just how corrupt, incompetent, narcissistic, dishonest, imperialistic,and just plain douchebaggy our politicians and there policies are, can you honestly expect us to then say, "but America is still the greatest country on Earth"?

not that it's the greatest country on Earth but it's still way better than some other countries is all I'm saying that it could be a whole lot worse.

America is easily one of if not the best country. Prove it you say...Ok.. Look at your quality of life, it far better than 99.9% of other people in other countries across the globe.
