I don't feel comfortable making plans because my life has been derailed from all the plans I originally had and I just go with the flow and change up things as they come along.

Like my uncle always says: "Life happens while you are busy making plans."

That's not to say that I don't have any goals that I would like to shoot for but I just have a feeling they are going to end up getting crushed and I'm going to end in a different direction. I guess it's nice for some of you that have had pretty stable lives were everything you planned to do has come to fruition.

What kind of goals do you have that you think will get squashed and prevented from achieving?

I'm just basing it off of my previous track record.

I went into the military but wasn't able to complete my time and training there. So I have some knowledge about being an electronics technician but not enough to be certified. My 6 years that I signed up for was cut short.

I went to college for accounting and I ended up having to drop out to take care of my mother. I racked up the debt and have to pay that off before I can go back to the same school and finish up. I'm one semester away from my associates degree with that. I'm not even sure I want to use it and go further with becoming an accountant. My plan was to get my Masters and then become a CPA but I don't know. I also wanted to be a production accountant for films at one point in time but that just took a back seat.

I'm currently writing but I don't feel like my writing skills are strong at the moment but I'd like to self publish my poetry/short stories and once I complete my novel that I've been working on for years I'd like to send that off to a publishing company.

I'm also studying on my own about the stock market and I would love to invest and dabble in that for a bit but who knows what tomorrow will bring and what else I might get into.

I feel like a failure at life because I haven't really completed anything that I have started and I've started so much.

Great goals!
Obviously you realize that most of them are well within your control to a degree. I would suggest that you prioritize them and work on the one that will be most attainable and also act as a springboard to other goals, whether that's a monetary springboard or not.
However, don't doubt yourself and assume that because you've failed in the past, you will fail in the future. The only way that will become reality is if you make that assumption. Self-fulfilling prophecy and all. Just focus on one thing, take it a step at a time, and let it get you to where you want to ultimately be.
From what you've said, there is very little that is holding you back other than yourself.

Yeah, after all this time. I'm still trying to figure out what I want my end game to be. I know things have changed here and there with certain goals I've had but I need to really have a deep conversation with myself about what I want in the long run and then take the baby steps to get there.

Part of the depression that I went through was concerning that fact that I felt I had no idea what I really wanted to do with my life concretely.

Right now I'm in my third year of full-time teaching and in five years time there is no way my pay will be anywhere near that  in fact it's pretty impossible for a primary school teacher to earn that so my 5 year plan does not involve anything to do with making a lot of money...

In 5 years time I will be 30 and will have been teaching for eight years if I stay in the profession. I guess my plan is to become stable enough in my career to be able to take time off to have kids or some boring grown-up **** like that. Thirty years old... yipes!

Yay I know! Thanks my darling. You are doing well yourself, I admire how passionate you are about your goals. I feel the same about getting closer to 30. I hope by then I'm engaged and have my career in full swing. When do you finish your degree?

Well....I GOT MY SCHOLARSHIP!!!

I'm late in saying so but....CONGRATS lady! I hope you're very proud of yourself. :)

Currently my job is sales support / estimating supervisor for a steel fabrication company. I've worked at the same company for 15 years (so old!), started off in data entry, worked my way up to production control assistant, then sales support, and now I'm the supervisor for a small group of people (which is only 2, haha). For a long time now I haven't really had a 5 year plan because I've been mostly happy at the company I'm at and live comfortably, however now that I'm in my thirties I'm finding myself feeling more and more unsettled and restless. Also there's been a change in the structure of my company that's been preventing me from moving up to a management position. So, I'm thinking about putting my resume out there to see if I get any hits. Not actively looking I guess, but just to see if I can get some good bites. And if the right job comes up, then I might just persue it! Since I have a lot of experience with Oil&Gas companies, I'm hoping I can get on board with one of them and possibly get a job that requires travel. It's a long shot, I know, but I have no children and nothing really tying me to one spot, so why not put it out there?

My real dream is to be the next Rick Steves, but...yeah. Not gonna happen. I could so travel the world and eat food like a champ though.

I finished my degree three years ago :) I've been teaching full-time as a "real" teacher since then! With a few other bits and pieces on the side.

Was a good feeling throwing my hat in the air and wearing those gawky grad robes!

I'm sure by 30 you will be absolutely killin' it, gurl ;)

Oh congrats honey! I am so pleased for you, I bet you are such a great teacher. What age group do you teach? I don't know about Australian grades so just give me a age. I was so proud of graduating from my degree, this was taken in the botanical gardens:

Do you have a picture of your graduation?

Hehe I will know I'm killing it when I have enough money to travel around the world and meet lots of people from MB, including you bb.
