I wish I could go to fun decades but they weren't so fun for people of my skin tone so I'll still with 90s and current decade.

Lmao

Okay it's actually not funny but it's funny cause people love to talk fanciful about times like the 1960s and before that and fail to recognise that they're basically saying that "things were better when PoC, the disabled, queer people, and women had less rights, man those were the days"

Times like that I wish this book was real:

speak for yourself black man & woman. I'd have prospered in such a day and age.

oh god yes yes yes.

I always bring that up when some females go on and on about the fashion from the 50s/60s and want to experience that period of time for it and how men always wore suits blah blah blah.

The first thing I say to them is "oh so you want to trade in your women's rights for fashion huh? you better not speak out of turn either or you are getting slapped"

That wasn't his point. Not too long ago ago, agender or not, you would have been treated like a woman (i.e. inferior and subservient.)

Oh really, so not much different than women are treated now?

Well...yeah. I mean, you aren't ostracized for going to college, or having a baby out of wedlock, or not being a housewife in the same way that you would have been before the sixties.

Ummmm, this still happens. Maybe not so much in the industrialized world that you and I know (though it still occurs unfortunately), but in the developed world, that's the norm. Girls are even denied basic primary education in some Third World countries because they believe it's more important for them to become a domestic goddess or something.

Have you ever heard of the "Glass Ceiling" ideology? In corporate America, it's a whole lot harder for women to move up the hierarchy than it is for men, simply because women aren't seen as capable of running large, multinational corporations, usually because people we're too emotional, have to raise a family, have to maintain order in their domestic life - the idea that a MAN can and should be able to run a household and raise kids is absolutely appalling, isn't it? Then there's also the salary gap...

The gender gap is still in existence.

My favorite decade is probably the 1990s. I was younger then and the music just affected me differently. :dj: I really enjoyed the grunge and alternative rock era if that's what ya wanna call it. The 90s in general is probably just a nostalgic thing for me

I'm well aware that these things still happen, and that there is a gender gap. That wasn't my point. My point was that progress has been made. You just sounded like you were saying that no progress has been made, and sometimes I'm not sure whether you're being serious or using hyperbole.

It's hardly any progress anymore, we're pretty much regressing now, undoing all the progress that has been made

Not much of a jacko/hair metal fan myself but yes they were equally as abundant as the genres i've mentioned. I could take a pass on led zeppelin and the Almann Bros. I would have liked to have seen Genesis in the Gabriel era.

Its all subjective and i don't take offense to your assessment. I lived the 80's and i loved it.

To come to the conclusion and say that I don't like "Thrash/Punk/New Wave" because I don't like Jacko or Hair Metal is a non sequitur.

CrazyVegn 07-03-2013 04:52 PM

1780s and 1980s

crazed 07-03-2013 06:08 PM

I found the 1960s to be a generally fun decade but I also equally enjoyed the 2000s. Too bad this decade has gotten off to a bad start, for me anyway.

I wouldn't mind visting the 802,700's, after the Morlocks are destroyed that is.

The 80's baby!

Now I gotta say when it come music and dance (and some pop cult fashions) I gotta give it up for tha 1980's! Also not just in tha US but in tha UK aswell, who here remembers a group known as Imagination?!? You gotta admit the 00's was just an upgraded version of the 80's when it come to the technology and social behaviors.

I also have to add that there where many electric political throw downs happenin'. Plus all them wars that were ragging on, my fav was tha Afghan-Soviet war. Tha 70's and 60's would come in 2nd and 3rd for me, peace!

Mr. Charlie 11-21-2013 08:52 AM

My favourite decade? In the 70s it was the 70s. In the 80s it was the 80s. And so on. How can I like the past more than the present? Memories more than actual existence?

Well I imagine Aushwitz prisoners probably prefer the thirties to the forties.

Mr. Charlie 11-21-2013 03:12 PM

Yeah, maybe. Tibetan Buddhists, depite currently being under Chinese occupation and opression, despite having their culture and way of life slowly eradicated - in other words despite having an easier time of it in decades gone by, they supposedly prefer the present because they realise that only in the present do we exist. And it's not a concept exclusive to Buddhism, many other religions and philosophies believe in the power of the present.

But I'm not sure this Vietnamese Buddhist shared the same philosophy:

Even though I grew up with 90s and 2000s music, my favourite decade is the decade I was born in, the 80s!

That's probably because it's too recent. Enough time hasn't passed to the point that we can look back on that decade with nostalgia yet.

Forward To Death 01-31-2014 02:33 AM

The 90s. As a kid, all I really cared about was Pokemon, Mortal Kombat, Monday night wrestling, and...

Agreed. Music-wise, there's great stuff from every era - however, I would say that because of the modern accessibility of recording equipment/ promotional tools, then there's probably a wider variety of music currently available to consumers than in previous decades, as artists can cut out the middle man and directly provide for their audience via the internet. Recording, being now a computerised process, is much easier to achieve in a non-professional capacity.

However, the question was simply: "what's your favourite decade?" not "what's your favourite decade of music" and so I definitely have to answer the present one: I like my life at the moment. It's pretty awesome. ^_^

James 01-31-2014 08:29 AM

I'm a big fan of the decade we're living in right now.

Sweet Chaos 01-31-2014 02:44 PM

2000's - too young to know much about the other ones...

Sweet Chaos

Isbjørn 01-31-2014 02:56 PM

Year 1000 - no cancer, no AIDS, and people didn't give a **** about whether things were clean or not, meaning less risk of bacterial OCD. Also, vikings

Scarlett O'Hara 01-31-2014 10:58 PM

I like the 2000's. I did a lot of fun stuff at high school and university. And I got to visit Antarctica. I hope this decade improves (most likely). I will be in a sweet job either 2014-15. Then I can visit people from here.

Spykakos 02-01-2014 12:40 AM

How come so many people associate the 2000s with all the craziness? I have heard from many people that all the crazy stuff they did was during that decade.

It's because of 9/11

After that happened all hell broke loose and people went crazy.

KuntaFalza 02-01-2014 09:32 AM

I think that the quality of world music peaked in the 70s, followed by the 80's and 60's. Maybe it did because of LSD, I don't really know.

Yet, if I could travel in time I would go to the future. If the world is not evolving into a brig brother dictatorship.

Isbjørn 02-01-2014 02:20 PM

Ever played Beneath a Steel Sky? That's how it'll turn out. Well, in Australia, at least.

butthead aka 216 02-01-2014 06:17 PM

2000s was my vote

why?? well cause despite what any militant feminist or white guilter will tell ya society in general is just way more progressive and will likely contnue bein mre progressive in teh future

aside from that i enjoy the music for the most part. actualyl no, enjoy the pop music. 90s was my fave time period musically but i would not have had the distant perspective i have now listenin to it. i would not have been able to appreciate the classics or the catchy songs that will always be relevant.

No cancer? The ancient Egyptians wrote about cancer so it was definitely around in 1000 AD.

you'd also be halfway through your life and getting ready to die in a few more years.

Life expectancy was super short.
