Your favorite decade?

Simply what is your favorite decade of all time, or the one that you'd want to live through the most? I imagine the more recent decades will be a more popular choice cause it's hard to distinguish different decades pre-1900, but which decade would you want to live in the most. Use any criteria you wish, and only one may be chosen!

If you choose one of the centuries in the poll, you can specify the specific decade in your post.

If I could go back in time I'd run a speakeasy in the 20s.

duga 05-22-2012 10:38 AM

The 60's. I love the style, the music, and things were just modern enough to where I wouldn't feel too inconvenienced not having my modern amenities.

PoorOldPo 05-22-2012 12:03 PM

1960....

no doubt.

FETCHER. 05-22-2012 01:06 PM

The sixties, and the 80's would probably be my second choice but definitely the 60's. My mates parents were in college/uni in the 60's and the stories they tell me are unbelievable.

The 80's would be my second. So much warm fuzzy nostalgia associated with the 80's. The 80's were just plain out badass, and that fact is becoming more and more apparent as we get further away from them.

FETCHER. 05-22-2012 01:32 PM

I just want an afro :D haha kidding.

Afros are cool. I can't grow one though, my hair is curly but it grows down. I associate afros with the 60's and the 80's sort of lol.

FETCHER. 05-22-2012 02:00 PM

My hair is naturally curly but more of a surfer curl, which is ****.

Goofle 05-22-2012 02:14 PM

2000's. No other decade comes close.

FETCHER. 05-22-2012 02:59 PM

Nah it's more than wavy, but not full blown tight curls.

FRED HALE SR. 05-23-2012 10:12 AM

I'd love to go back to 1980 and re-live it all over again. I don't think there will ever be a music scene as rich as the 80's.

Wait, so like Farrah Fawcett?

FETCHER. 05-23-2012 03:13 PM

Nooo, it's hard to explain. I have weird hair. You'll see a photo of it at some point.

Thom Yorke 05-24-2012 01:10 AM

1920s economic boom would've been pretty cool to live through.

PoorOldPo 05-24-2012 05:27 AM

Until the fateful 29.

Guybrush 05-24-2012 07:28 AM

1490s Venice would be a great place and time to experience the Italian renaissance, but I'd rather prefer to go back in time and visit it as a sort of tourist than actually be born and raised there during that period in time.

For comfortable living, I think there's no better time than now .. But I'd love to go back to the 70s and see some concerts.

Salami 05-28-2012 09:46 AM

I voted 1940's because historically it was the most intense and frightening time in British history - all my grandparents nearly died at some point, but the two who survive are nearly 100 and are still very healthy. And being a patriotic kind of lad I think I'd find a battle to save our own land far more inspiring than the current conflicts. The way our country gelled together was also incredible - and I think this would have been my favourite time to be alive.

Goofle 05-28-2012 11:16 AM

Can't believe I am the only one who voted 2000's.

Maybe share why it's your favorite? The 2000's certainly weren't bad, but they're far from my favorite. I guess we lack the hindsight to look back and distinguish its uniqueness and trends. Maybe in 20 more years.

Goofle 05-29-2012 03:48 PM

To me, social trends and all that nonsense doesn't really matter, so saying the 60's etc. is the greatest decade for music and festivals is pretty irrelevant, because I can listen to the music now, and watch the great films.

However, they didn't have anything that came after it, so you are basically limiting yourself in terms of how much enjoyment you can have as an individual in search of a nostalgic fantasy, that probably wouldn't live up to your imagination had you lived through it.

I think the point is to only take into account what each decade gave us, not how life is like in that decade in terms of the entire history of man.

Scarlett O'Hara 06-16-2012 03:25 PM

I think the 90's are my favourite. I was young and had good times with my family, excellent cartoons and fallout/age of empires.

Not to be mean I can't see how 80's was that great, what was popular was simply horrible e.g. Jacko and Hair Metal. I thouhgt the beginning of the 80's OK because music but it was from the fact that was what happening in the 70's was still influential.

I'm totally divided on this. I think I would want my weekdays and weekends to be split. I would work in the 2000's and party on the weekends in the 1970's. Could you imagine being able to go to CBGBs or a Disco in NYC or see the Allman Brothers or Genesis or Led Zeppelin in concert?

I'm gonna take a guess and venture that you don't really like Thrash/Punk/New Wave? All three genres were at their alltime creative high in the 80's. Not much of a jacko/hair metal fan myself but yes they were equally as abundant as the genres i've mentioned. I could take a pass on led zeppelin and the Almann Bros. I would have liked to have seen Genesis in the Gabriel era.

Its all subjective and i don't take offense to your assessment. I lived the 80's and i loved it.

Laser 06-23-2012 03:02 AM

It would be really cool to visit other decades like the 1980s and the 1960s or even the 1700s but I like this one most because I would miss my pc and Sansa and stuff so I wouldnt want to live in any of those decades. and I just know I wouldnt like the music. =/

CerialKillah 06-25-2013 08:00 PM

the 50's. We white men had ALL the power instead of most.
We lived in a world where we all wore three piece suits, smoked hearty cigars and went to jazz bars.
Blacks were neegros, women were punchbags and the world was starting to prosper after the second World War.
There was no such thing as political correctness nor was society scared of itself. Things were simpler. Sinatra was dropping some hot records and the Western World took leaps and bounds in its development.

RoxyRollah 06-26-2013 08:48 PM

60's man...need I say more...there was a lot of things going down...and expression....

Nah bro, the 1850's was the height of romanticism before Wagner and Liszt came and fucked everything up.

A-****ing-men. We're obviously the superior race/sex, so I don't see why everyone else has to try to challenge our hegemony. They're only shooting themselves in the foot in the end.

Norg 06-28-2013 03:00 PM

im fine with the time i live in now but idk it seems my parents the hippie generation had a easier time getting a job and buying a house while for me it was hard getting a job and much less a studio apt lol.

but anyways i wonder what the future will be like i prob wont live past 2064.

s_k 06-28-2013 04:27 PM

I'd definitely like to give the period between '55 and '75 a go.
Great music, good times in general and interesting changes going on in the world.

Late 50s is one of my favourite jazz periods for sure.

Norg 06-28-2013 10:20 PM

there was more open and rampant raceism from like 1940 on down so that was pretty lame
