I feel the exact same way. Telling someone about my former diagnoses (bipolar disorder) is really hard for me to do, and it's something I tell only those who I know won't antagonize me about it. I am now actually diagnosed with anxiety depression, which seems more likely to me, but that doesn't really make it any easier to tell people. It just gives someone an excuse to treat you differently.

BD was talking about "French-Canadians." You see the Québécois don't identify themselves as Canadian enough to qualify as Self-hating Canadians. Be careful of what you say you are going to create a paradox that will destroy the Canadian Time-Space Continuum.

LOL. It certainly didn't come naturally. My mum's almost as bad. She is a couple of generations Aussie of English/ Irish descent. You could tell her anything and her response will be something along the lines of 'Oh yes. Would you like a cup of tea?'.

I'm having my head amputated due to raging tumours.

Oh yes. Would you like a cup of tea?


She once sent me a letter begging me to come home due to the impending apocalypse, warning me not to answer the door because demon hordes would be knocking disguised as my loved ones. Next time I saw her it was like it never happened (the letter I mean not the apocalypse... everyone knows that happened.)

That's my point. Canadians who try to make some convoluted argument for not being Canadian? That just reeks of self-hate. I mean I can understand feeling shame at being Canadian, but at least be honest with yourself.

Just to add to the confusion, the French-Canadian side of my family are mostly from Maine, not Canada.
