Why Are You Still Even Here?

What makes you decide to keep coming back to Music Banter?

Mojo 10-19-2012 06:02 PM

Recommendations and knowing which to pay attention to based on getting to know more and more about peoples tastes in music.

Generally speaking I don't do forums, nor have I ever.

Scarlett O'Hara 10-19-2012 06:09 PM

I come back for the brilliant ads:

Meet Pretty Chinese Lady Top class dating site for western men meeting and dating Chinese single women and Thai single women. - Chinese-lady.com

Mojo 10-19-2012 06:16 PM

EDIT: I jumped the gun before the poll was made. Obviously I have to go for Genesis vs. Pig Destroyer or 99% of band vs. band threads, for two reasons. One, because it was my idea and two, because its a pointless excercise I can't even begin to care about.

gunnels 10-19-2012 06:54 PM

I been here for four years because I honestly find all of you oddly loveable, even when there's drama or bitching or whatever malady that may occur. The plethora of music discussed here is pretty damned awesome too, obviously, but if that sense of community and respect for (pretty much) everyone else wasn't there, I wouldn't be here.
And there's my sappy, sentimental post in this tongue-in-cheek thread. :)

Trollheart 10-19-2012 07:09 PM

To annoy as many people as possible with my music tastes, which most of you find "pedestrian" (NOT the mod of the same name) to be polite, or "****" to be less than polite. My music journal is, no doubt, a constant thorn in your collective sides, but unless you club together and pay a hitman to take me out I won't stop --- hang on, why is there a red dot on my --- ?

Rjinn 10-19-2012 07:10 PM

It's a great place to discuss music, and read all you band fanboys rip each other apart while I eat caramel popcorn.

Bloozcrooz 10-19-2012 07:20 PM

:yeah:I just love mb and the all the topics that get discussed and debated. A real community of good natured people from all over. Collaborating together to make this forum a place where people can come and feel comfortable sharing their opinions and thoughts.

14232949 10-19-2012 08:39 PM

I got banned from a much better site and had to settle for the consolation prize ;)

Bloozcrooz 10-19-2012 08:43 PM

Is the anal beads option a thing of the past?

I guess unless you want to violate Freebase's cat?

I was going to include it...fine I will now.

VEGANGELICA 10-19-2012 09:56 PM

I'm still here because I enjoy looking at the avatars, for example gunnels' cute little blue-eyed, yellow kitty, and Plankton's tiny shrimp who just keeps swimming, swimming, swimming.

Also, I return to MusicBanter because I am in secret competition with chard (he doesn't know about it): for three years now, I have been craftily plotting and planning my posts so that my songwriting collection will hopefully, some glorious day, get more views than his songwriting journal! I think it may take two more years or so until I overtake him, but I am patient. I'm in this for the long haul. :D

Scarlett O'Hara 10-19-2012 10:08 PM

Well words wise you have exceeded him, by a thesis worth.

That's true! :)

Blarobbarg 10-19-2012 11:03 PM

Quite simply, I can't stop myself. I've tried. It's like an addiction. Honestly, it seems like it wastes my time, but I know that even if I successfully left, I'd just find another forum to waste my time in. I've been a part of forums since I was 12, it's just a part of who I am now.

It's actually a spider/tick(?) with electrical powers.

Anyway, the main reason why I come here is because I enjoy looking in "Last album you bought/downloaded" and "Albums You're Digging II", since people usually post some pretty good albums in there. I'd participate more, but I didn't have the time to come on here as often as I wanted in the last few months. I've been trying to post more in the past few days, however.

Guybrush 10-20-2012 04:08 AM

I'm an old forum goer by nature, but right now, MusicBanter is the only place on the internet where I might discuss things like philosophy which I enjoy a lot. I'm not here so much for the music discussions as those were seldom really satisfying here anyways and I now get my music discussion fix somewhere else, but of course I do join in rarely now and then if I come across a music subject I find interesting.

Some of you I like, a few of you I don't, but on the whole I think MB is a good community well worth coming back to now and then.

I come because, once, I use to have some pretty great (and now embarrassing) battles here. And I live for the battle of ideas. Science, Philosophy, Music, Politics.

I just wish we had more of them. Also, I've been trying to get "swim" to go on a date with me for something like 5 years. Its gunna happen real soon.

PoorOldPo 10-20-2012 09:00 AM

Because I like some of the people on here.

anticipation 10-20-2012 09:15 AM

I get high sometimes and have the internet.

The Batlord 10-20-2012 09:23 AM

I like talking about music and just shooting the ****, but really, I just don't much like socializing in real life, so this is about as much of people as I generally like to expose myself to on a regular basis.

Isbjørn 10-20-2012 11:27 AM

I love music. It's my favourite word. And I need someone to discuss it with.

Psy-Fi 10-20-2012 06:55 PM

Probably because this is the most interesting music forum I've come across in my internet travels.
A wide range of diverse topics, opinions, tastes and interesting characters.
I came here for the free love, groovy acid, good smoke & cheap drinks (but I stay for the music!) :D

Trollheart 10-20-2012 06:57 PM

There are cheap drinks???

^ This is the reply that most reflects my attitude. This one too, with Bloozcrooz in surprisingly sentimental mood :-

I`ve learnt so much about music from people here, and like Blarrobargg I find the place addictive. Part of the addiction is that you can never exhaust all the recommendations that have been posted here, and another part is that once you post something yourself, you have to go back and see if anyone has commented on it, right ?

Rjinn 10-20-2012 08:00 PM

When you're integrated in a forum community, it does become quite addictive, mostly because there is a lot to talk about, or a lot of topics to discuss. It's the same with me. Used to be at it for 5 years non-stop at another forum, here and there with others, or read a lot of topics.

This forum is slowly becoming an addiction, even though I've only been here a couple of months. The recs and the members are worth coming back to, although still getting to know them on here.

Sansa Stark 10-20-2012 08:02 PM

to rule the shoutbox, duh

VEGANGELICA 10-20-2012 08:33 PM

Okay, I'll answer (more) seriously this time.

Like Lisnaholic, I agree with Bloozcrooz, whose description matches how I feel about MusicBanter during my favorite times here:

Interacting with friendly people as we discuss music inspires me to explore and enjoy music even more than I do by myself. I also love the chance to learn about a wide range of subjects and people new to me, broadening my horizons far beyond my own roost.

For example, if Queen Chrysalis of the Changelings had not mentioned the following...

Freebase Dali 10-20-2012 08:39 PM

I came for the music, but stayed for the LOLs.

Isn't useless knowledge about video games amazing?

(To be honest, I shouldn't have linked a wiki article since it seems a bit excessive. This is why I don't post when I'm tired. :/)

Edit: By the way, how did anal beads become a running gag in polls?

crazyaga 10-21-2012 04:26 AM

Because I love talking about music :)

Mojo 10-21-2012 04:52 AM

And because you've only been here three days anyway? ;)

Big Ears 10-21-2012 06:26 AM

I'm here for the free keyrings, pens and mugs.

TockTockTock 10-21-2012 06:39 AM

Anal beads is the correct answer.
