Most things here are concrete and steel, and some older buildings are stone and brick. The only wood frames here are found mostly in older structures and houses (most new houses now have steel frames with brick walls).

I know in Canada that it's mostly out west that there are a lot of wooden houses etc.

Could be, I don't know. I'm sure there are reasons for the use of different building materials in different places though. It certainly varies a reasonable amount from place to place within the US.

Wood is cheap to build with in the USA as far as I know, whereas in some parts of Europe it is expensive to build with (Depending on which part of Europe you're in).

Well there you go. Also, like I mentioned, building materials do vary from place within the US. In Chicago, for example, almost no buildings are made out of wood.
