So I just figured out that he's not taking his meds anymore. This is the reason he's been acting like a complete lunatic...because he is one. He's supposed to take them once in the morning and once at night. I had assumed that my parents were waking my brother up because he sleeps until noon every day. They've actually been leaving it on the counter for him to take by himself.

I'm actually a bit mad at my parents but honestly they've been through a lot. It just didn't occur to them that he wouldn't take them.

It explains everything. We actually just made an appointment with a therapist/psychologist for thursday and we're giving him an ultimatum when he gets home tonight. He's either going to take them in front of us or he's going to leave.

Anyway, stop getting on your high horse: I'm just giving my advice as I see it. Exo doesn't have to take it, and this thread doesn't need your drama. It's about him, not you.

Aw that's cute, because I have been in that situation and actually know what the **** I'm talking about, I have a high horse.

You tried, bro.

Personally there is only so much help you are able to offer someone like that man. There comes a time when your help is not being taken, when you have no other option but to just let things run their course. you have to decide if what he is doing, his actions, are worth the problems that they may cause in your life personally. It sounds like you have a lot to deal with and brother or not he shouldnt be one of those things. Eventually he will need to hit rock bottom and actually have the desire to take the hand up you offer. untill that point you are wasting your effort. This is coming from someone that understands your situation pretty damn well from personal experiences over the years.

I KNOW you were in that situation. I did read the entire thread. I'm not for a minute suggesting what you did or how you overcame your situation was wrong, or that it couldn't be applied here. Everyone has their own idea of how to approach this and I personally thankfully have never had to deal with this.

What I have an issue with is you telling me I don't know what I'm talking about. I may not, but if this were a situation in which a third party (brother, sister, girlfriend, anyone) was causing disruption to my household, due to this kind of behaviour --- whether controllable or not --- and that person was not prepared to even get any sort of help, with my sister in the delicate position she's in I would have no hesitation in telling them they had to leave. Her health and wellbeing is my first priority. It's the same with Exo and his parents. You can't keep making excuses and accepting this behaviour, ongoing and getting worse as it is.

In any case, all that notwithstanding, my actual issue is that you're now using this very serious thread as a way to snap back at me for saying something you don't agree with. It's a case of you turning the thread into something about you. It's not. Get over it. Disagree with me but don't start sniping at me and if you want to talk to me about this PM me; don't start clogging up the thread with it, because in the final analysis you, me and everyone else here apart from Exo are unimportant, and it's both insulting and selfish to start attacking each other over the different way we see things.

And now I've made a big post that sort of defeats the purpose, but it's the only one I'll make on this. Exo surely doesn't want his thread sidetracked so let's just leave it at that and get back to helping him anyway we can, offering advice. You don't agree with mine, I don't agree with yours. Let's just leave it at that, okay?

I don't give a **** about you, I just care about another person not being made homeless and getting an even worse addiction and doing even worse things to supply that addiction because they took your uninformed and ignorant advice, so **** off.

When you've been homeless, a drug addict, and bipolar then maybe you'll know what you're talking about. If his brother is doing that kinda **** to supply a ****ing POT addiction, imagine if he becomes homeless and gets exposed to all sorts of disgusting things. The worst thing they could do is totally abandon him. He cannot ****ing fend for himself if he's sick like that.

When you get to the point that you can not help them there is nothing left to do without violating there own civil rights etc. The only way to keep someone from doing these types of things at a point like this is to chain them up to something or lock them in a room. Addiction, mental illnesses are all challanging to deal with on both parties but when too much is too much thats all there is too it.

True enough, I don't know the laws where Exo lives but if they can get him institutionalised that would be extremely helpful, or at least get him into a detox program but leaving him homeless would just **** him over even worse

That is something the OP really needs to look into if legally he could have him admitted to a detox center, or rehabilitation center. It is not healthy or safe to have the individual around, or to just leave him out in the cold either something needs to be figured out. Rehab seems to be the best option but if it is not an option unfortunately giving up may be the only way to get the guy to realize what he has done. As the owner of a deviated septum and an alumni of rehabilitation lol I can tell you personally that particular system works.

Why would you only care about one person's well-being and not the other's? Do you know how sick his brother must feel? And how alone?

Bipolar disorder doesn't just go away with independence, it doesn't get better. I could never abandon someone that way.
