Painting fingernails black...

Surprisingly, a lot of people are against me, a male, painting my fingernails black. Women have expressed that it is a turnoff. The funny thing is, a lot of women, I have found, find tatoos and earrings to be a turnon.

I have a theory though. A theory that it only sounds weird and then I will do it and people will be like, "Oh, it does look better."

What are your thoughts for a straight male painting their fingernails black?

Janszoon 04-17-2013 09:07 AM

I associate it with an annoying roommate I had in college but other than that I'm prett neutral on the subject.

Plankton 04-17-2013 09:17 AM

I see nothing wrong with it. Steve Stevens (Billy Idol guitarist) has been doing it for like... ever.

No offense, but aside from rednecks and old people I don't think a whole lot of people actually care.

Painting your nails black > earrings > tattoos

Go for it.

More like painting your nails black goes along with earrings and tattoos. If you don't fully commit to that style then just don't do it.

Most likely that's why it's a turn off for the women you are approaching and you are probably approaching the wrong ones.

Cuthbert 04-17-2013 10:01 AM

Na, that's just my opinion on painting your nails black. It doesn't look as stupid as ear piercings and tattoos.

I used to have earrings, they looked stupid so I took em out.

GuitarBizarre 04-17-2013 10:04 AM

I've rarely seen anyone male with black fingernails who didn't either look like, sound like, or act like, a complete prick. Don't risk it, there are better ways to try and look cool.

RoxyRollah 04-17-2013 10:31 AM

As long as you are not asking a woman, (your girl or any random woman) if you can borrow her eye liner you should be fine... because that is unsanitary...

Totally hardcore man. I think it would be way more hardcore to paint them pink and deal with the aftermath.

Agreed, what should matter is what you think, if you like it, and how you feel about it. Not what those around you think. It just all depends on how far you want to take things, back my senior year I quit my job because they told me I had to cut my purple and green hair off and take my polish off. Its about what you want, and how badly you want it.

A guy should only wear eyeliner if he's performing onstage. Otherwise, no way lol.

LoathsomePete 04-17-2013 02:01 PM

The only time a man's fingernails should be black is if he hit them with his hammer god dangit

He's got to get his own.

This.

Janszoon 04-17-2013 03:53 PM

The only time a man's fingernails should be black is if there are no pink, red, purple, yellow or lime green nail polishes available.

Of course. Other greens just don't have enough pizzazz.

Or if he took a hammer to his fingers.

That's bullcrap. I paint my nails black and have no tattoos or piercings (other than my ears and bellybutton which you can't see). So suddenly I don't fit into your ideals of what goes with a particular look? Sorry to disappoint you but people have the right to dress, wear make-up and paint their nails any colours and styles that they want.

The only pet hate I have in regards to style is when girls wear clothes that clash ridiculously, but even then if that's what they want to look like it's their decision and I'm happy for them.

Sansa Stark 04-17-2013 06:48 PM

I think he means just guys that paint their nails black. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's in the know about women of all types doing black nails, but the type of dude who wears black nail polish is always the type with ****ty flame tattoos & gross little chin beards

Yeah I know he meant only guys. The fact is, it's nobodies business what the OP wears. I say have your own personality and confidence to dress in your style and paint your nails any colour.

scleaves 04-17-2013 07:14 PM

Okay.

So what I have gotten from this thread, is that the women I have talked to who think it's a turnoff to paint your fingernails black, are probably being silly.

I had a goth/rocker type image in mind when I said that and it usually goes hand in hand with some tats, piercings and a choker. Of course the OP can dress however he wants but he would probably get a better response going all out than just putting a little black nail polish on his nails.

Scarlett O'Hara 04-17-2013 09:13 PM

Maybe he's not looking for a response, perhaps he's doing it to make himself happy? Maybe he doesn't want to fit the mould of stereotypes?

WWWP 04-17-2013 09:17 PM

The only time a man's fingernails should be black is if he feels like painting them black. **** anyone who says you shouldn't, who the **** are they?

Paedantic Basterd 04-17-2013 09:20 PM

He can paint them red if he wants.

of course he's looking for a response or else he would just be happy and have not made this thread in the first place.

Well I guess not everyone here is concerned about what other people think of how they look. If he wants to dye his hair pink and wear make-up that's his choice and if people don't like it then they can tell someone who cares. But in this case the guy does care, and he needs to know that he shouldn't worry about being accepted by society.

No, some are on vaginas.
Others are on gay men.

Also I really dont care if dudes wanna use makeup. Like RoxyRollah said, it's just unsanitary if they wanna use mine.
