Thoughts From the Booth

It's at the early stages looks wise but I'll be updating content as much as possible. I'll cross post movie reviews here but you guys should read cause it's not just going to be movie reviews. I'll try to post as much as I can about everything I can.

Wordpress, good choice. I like the way it looks and the text/background contrast is real nice, and easy to read. Some blogs I've seen have terrible contrast so I don't read them, but yours is perfect.

I like movies although not a huge film buff myself, but I will keep checking your site because I like to read your reviews.

(Temporarily possessed by Americanisms --- it happens, it's a real problem) Oh man I am stoked for this! I always said you were an awesome writer and should be channeling your talents into something like this. I haven't read it yet as I'm going to take my time and it's now late, but I know this is going to be on my often-visited list.

Thanks guys. I'm going to experiment and get some content on there before I start making social media sites for it such as a twitter and facebook. I also have to look up how to use those two things because I haven't had a social media page since high school and myspace.

More like it's easier to get your content out and more people will read your blog if you utilise tags

He can use tags in wordpress. Anyway, nice job. It looks quite good.

No one uses wordpress, except for the themes

my personal blog has 400+ followers for the reason that I use tags

It's actually an extremely popular way to make a blog or build a website. I believe it's still the most popular CMS out there.

Except it's not as popular as tumblr with people with varied interests who actually, you know, get **** done and actually accomplish anything with their creative work.

Especially people around Exo's age and mine.

Exo hasn't told us his target audience, but I imagine people with similar interests around our age is what he is aiming for.

I use tumblr on a daily basis and have discovered tonnes of things I love through there because it's user friendly and full of communities of people our age. Being that he doesn't get much traffic through MB here especially, I suggested a better blogging platform for Exo, personally, not Janszoon but u can say whatever you want tho, prob check your ego first tho

What I did when I started a blog for school was made one on one site and another one tumblr. That way I could spread my posts both ways and had one that looked better and one that was likely to gain more followers though my friends and such.

How about letting Exo decide which platform he'd like to use. Maybe he tried tumblr and didn't think it was right for him. We don't know.

^ Exactly! I have a work tumblr too that I use for sex work & another for my writing art. They're so much more manageable to have sideblogs and everything since they're all connected to your main blog.

Plus my best customer came from tumblr, he pays me like 1k to show him my feet.

Also if you have good friends on tumblr they might have lots of followers and they might promo you just cause you're friends. I promo friends all the time just cause I like them. If you make friends with film bloggers, they'll promo you too!

Exo, just consider it, I think there's a thing called Posterous (I dont know if it's still up) but it will cross post in different places! You should def consider that to get the widest audience :)

I have taken nothing as a personal insult. You told Engine that "no one uses wordpress, except for the themes" and I was simply pointing out that it is, in fact, heavily used for a variety of purposes. Nothing more to it than that.

The other thing, though, is that Wordpress probably feels a lot more professional. Especially regarding personalization, which is why I liked Blogger when I made my school blog!

Engine have a bantering bickering relationship, it's not my fault you took my purposely. Engine and I have many misunderstandings that doesn't mean we're unfriendly, we just like to argue because we butt heads a lot. Except you are taking things personal because you're putting your input in like I'm wrong, prob because you're still pissed over the drama and can't just you know stfu and be nice

Anyway, this thread is for people who like Exo, I like Exo but I don't share his interest in film. However, I do know of many resources to share content, for people our own age, so I shared them.

Exo, if you need help w/ tumblr feel free to pm me or send me a visitors message, my main tumblr is here too I should have an ask box on there to get ahold of me too, if you need any help with themes or anything at all!

There could well of been a spike in the use of Tumblr over the last 12 months, but I'm fairly sure that until a year ago Wordpress was the most popular, most used blogging platform.

But it's been steadily rising since 2009ish and since Yahoo bought it's been in the news a lot so it's going to probably become more popular even now

And Yahoo just bought Tumblr which may mean a decline in users because Yahoo are dinosaurs.

Well the fact they paid around 90 times more than the Tumblr total revenue last year suggests to me that they somewhat shot their wad on this particular deal.

They should hopefully know what they're doing with it.

I was indeed trying to be helpful to Exo b/c I think that wordpress is a great CMS and I know many professionals and amateurs (of all sorts) who currently use it to build their personal sites. I agree with you about tags and wanted to tell him that wordpress has an effective tagging feature.

Definitely. Use all the available tools to build the best thing you can.

Despite my old age, I'm talking mostly about people who are 10-15 years younger than me (your age) who are embarking on lucrative professional careers and forging casual Web followings using wordpress. These youngsters have just earned their masters degrees in Information Science in 2012/2013.
