I don't know all the stats of course, I only said approximately never. Also, I tend not to count the older generations b/c they got often got and stayed married due to tradition and taboo. And I've seen very few older married couples that I would consider happy (please don't inundate me with stories of how happy your parents and grandparents are - I believe you).

For the record, I do personally know one person (born after 1970) who stayed with their first love. One.
I heard of a statistic - I forget where - that only 1/3 of people marry who they really want to marry and the other 2/3 marry when he or she are ready to settle down with another who is also ready to settle down. The stat might be less than 1/3 now of childhood sweethearts/first loves marrying compared to marriages that is a consequence of something like Matchdotcom.

You mean like an unplanned pregnancy? That's not just the older generations.
I'd agree it doesn't happen as much now days, but I can say through personal experience that it's still around.

Didn't last in my case though. We were divorced in less than 4 years.

Haha, no. Unplanned pregnancy is and always has been an issue but I was talking about more recent social mores that surround marriage (please abort your unwanted children, folks, it's safe and legal).

I meant that people from older generations were expected to marry young and stay married at all cost. Mostly because of traditions like religions, and other myths.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation though. Divorce sucks. I wish you luck raising your kid(s).

Not an option I would even remotely consider. Definitely not safe for the child!
