MacDonalds

1 Attachment(s)
I was surfing the net the other day and I came across this ad for MacDonalds. I'm sorry if this seems extreme but aren't we supposed to be facing an obesity crisis with one third of all people being obese or something. How can we fight this problem with crap companies issuing challenges such as these?!?

ArtistInTheAmbulance 06-17-2005 07:05 AM

"Are you man enough to spend all your money into making yourself morbidly obese?"

...Sad. But tis the way of the media now I guess..

ladyluckrules 06-17-2005 08:09 AM

Don't get me started on fast food chains, oh and read fast food nation by Eric Schlosser.

pastor of muppets 06-17-2005 08:14 AM

im so angry... i think im gonna go listen to killing in the name of.....

ladyluckrules 06-17-2005 08:15 AM

Save a life, trash a McDonalds today instead kids.

pastor of muppets 06-17-2005 08:22 AM

^listen to this person....

dog 06-17-2005 08:27 AM

i don really see wat the ads gotta do with starvin people.

pastor of muppets 06-17-2005 08:31 AM

nothing... im just sayin that macdonalds shouldnt advertise to people by giving them a challenge of "can you eat this pile of **** or arent you man enough?". its playing on peoples sense of worth and it will screw peoples heads up..... its wrong

phoenixflames 06-17-2005 08:36 AM

^ Well it wouldn't be the first, nor last, nor the worst advertising to do so. I like McDonalds, and Mmmmmmmm a burger and fries sound sooooo good right now. Of course, I'm a skinny person with nothing to fear from greasy, fatty foods, so that type of advertising is fine by me! :)

pastor of muppets 06-17-2005 08:39 AM

true that... i was just astonished by this because of all the media about it and obesity etc...

^^ You are right about the media being all against it. It is quite supprising that it was run. I'm sure soon those types of ads will go the way of Joe Camel and happy beer ads. :bonkhead:

It wouldn't be the first time someone tried. :) They have cheap food and its good, who cares if its healthy! Its not meant to be consumed on a steady diet.

ladyluckrules 06-17-2005 09:05 AM

It's fine if you want to eat it. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

gabbagabba_hey 06-17-2005 09:10 AM

this is funny people getting all offensive about mcdonalds

For those who wonder what the big deal is about mcdonalds watch Super Size Me.

living on nothing but McDonald's for an entire month with three simple rules:

1) No options: he could only eat what was available over the counter (water included!)
2) No supersizing unless offered
3) No excuses: he had to eat every item on the menu at least once

facts
Each day, 1 in 4 Americans visits a fast food restaurant

In 1972, we spent 3 billion a year on fast food - today we spend more than 110 billion

McDonald's feeds more than 46 million people a day - more than the entire population of Spain

French fries are the most eaten vegetable in America

You would have to walk for seven hours straight to burn off a Super Sized Coke, fry and Big Mac

60 % of all Americans are either overweight or obese

as you can see, its a much bigger problem than some may think.

phoenixflames 06-17-2005 10:12 AM

^ I don't see a problem with that :) . I do see a problem with Wal-Mart though. Thats one business I don't like...

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 06-17-2005 10:14 AM

that was a great movie. i dont know what that guy was thinking when he did that though. he went from being vegetarian to eating nothing but junky fast food. if you payed attention to the health checkups that he had. he went from having perfect health to being at risk of dying because of the effects of the food he ate had on his body.

although it is true that mcdonalds shouldnt and usually isnt part of a daily eating routine, the effects that even a little bit of it has on your body in the long run are enough to stop me from eating it.

gabbagabba_hey 06-17-2005 10:15 AM

this sounds mean but i dont really care about things like this if people wanna go eat mcdonalds every day get fat and die then thats their problem

Fenixpunk 06-17-2005 10:19 AM

The point was obesity and problems associated with it are killing us. Mcdonalds is the #1 producer in this epidemic. Its like glorifying heroin use, ignoring the dangers of it, and then allowing them to spend multi millions of dollars on advertising how great it is. Most high schools now have mcdonalds in them and so do walmarts, kmarts and every mall or shopping center in america. To those who take time to notice these things its like a drug dealer on every corner.

ladyluckrules 06-17-2005 10:19 AM

^ agreed

ladyluckrules 06-17-2005 10:22 AM

But really, read fast food nation, it's far more disturbing than super size me.

Scary sh*t. Nicely done.

I think its pointless how Mcdonalds are trying to save themselves by putting salad on the menu, barely anyone goes into a fast-food restaurant thinking about their health. I dont even think Mcdonalds taste that good... Its just meat and grease. No thank yoh..

Well, the diference is that its not addicting (some would argue that it is though). If people get obese and die, thats their fault for not taking care of their health. Its like saying we shouldn't drive or buy cars because people sometimes die in them. Its usually not the fault of the car, its the driver (or another driver). If people can't control themselves from eating unhealthy food (and what person thinks McDonalds is healthy), then even if you keep them from McDonalds, they will find some other way to kill themselves. Its not McDonalds fault for making the food. Have everything in moderation...

Fenixpunk 06-17-2005 10:28 AM

i agree aita, Im not a vegetarian, and i love a good burger but mcdonalds is hardly the place for a good burger.

ladyluckrules 06-17-2005 10:30 AM

Heh, even the salad is high fat which they get away with because it's in the sauce.

gabbagabba_hey 06-17-2005 10:30 AM

^ thats true

ladyluckrules 06-17-2005 10:31 AM

^i love confusing posts

phoenixflames 06-17-2005 10:34 AM

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying their stuff is healthy. Its prolly better to eat a piece of cardboard soaked in hobo urine than one of their burgers, and healthier too. I just don't think its McDonalds fault that people are fat, lazy, and dying...

Its not their fault that people aren't dieting, but its their fault they're putting out ads like pastor posted...

ladyluckrules 06-17-2005 10:36 AM

But some people are just too lazy to get their @ss up and actually count the huge amount of calories in their precious greasy Big Mac.

Well, I can see where you are coming from, but I think the world is getting way too PC. Once again, I think this falls under the self-control catagory. If people can't resist an advertisement, what does that tell you about the person in general?

I think its funny we are debating about McDonalds, and its not even turning into flames. This is better than a music thread!! :)

You'd be surprised at the effect that advertising has on people. Especially with Mcdonalds, there's adverts everywhere for new offers they've got going on. Seeing so many ads can have an effect on you, even though you might not realise it.
