Question Monkey Magic Anyone?

Did anyone used to watch Monkey Magic?
I hired some episodes on dvd the other day and i got a little confused.
Is Tripitaka a bloke or a chick?
I mean she clearly looks like a chick and the person who dubs her voice is a chick, so why do monkey and piggsys and that always refer tpo her as "he"?????????

Tripitaka is a 'he', played by a she - I think it's supposed to portray the 'gentleness' of the monks.
We used to watch Monkey when we were kids - well amusing!!! I'd like to meet Monkey and get a ride on his cloud.
