Do you?

It could even be me. And you haven't got a single clue who I am or what i want you to think!

Dump Facebook or use it with extreme care.

Trust Me.

(but then, why should you trust me? You don't know who I am do you? A bit like me giving you some information via facebook)

See what i mean?

I was joking.

I only use it to see what others are up to, especially distant relatives and friends. Otherwise I hardly use it. I go there for the musician or band feeds, primarily.

14232949 12-17-2013 07:06 PM

we had a facebook free world prior to 2004. In that time we had two world wars, the black plague, 200 years of slavery, mass genocide & Ronald Reagan ascended to President.
Your idea of a facebook free utopia is a little flawed.

I don't use my real name, I don't post many pictures, I mostly post music and like shit. Not even my coworkers know about my facebook I'm so secretive about it.

Friendster is still around and incredibly popular in Asia.

It looks like a social gaming site now instead of just a social network.

Facebook is for people who are desperate for attention, and some people will go to great lengths to get noticed. You only have to look at the photos stuck on there to prove that.

The progression of the human species doesn't involve telling total strangers what you had for breakfast or that your goldfish died last night.

The world would, quite simply, be a healthier place without Facebook.

In a very few years, it will be a source of embarrassment to even admit that you once had a FB account. The problem is, that the pictures of you sticking your backside out of a window in a moment of drunkeness will find its way onto someones desk when you go for a job or seek a promotion.

Its also a bit like a potential new husband/wife/partner doing a 'credit-check' on you or reading your life history before realising what a jerk you are.

Hot chick didn't friend you, eh?

I use the book of face from time to time mostly to update mates who aren't in my locality the progress on my cars. I've never believed in adding people i've never met so it doesn't happen. People from other forums and messageboards have asked for my fb page or sent requests in the past and I always decline or hit the ignore and "delete request" button

In my opinion if I've never met you you're not a friend plus i'm very distrusting of people I don't know

Grogsy 12-17-2013 10:49 PM

No you're not distrusting :p: I've never seen the point of adding people I've never met ................. bit like having penpals you are probably never going to see in your life.

Believe me I'm the most distrusting person ever to walk the face of the planet.

I have my reasons as to why

so just because you are never going to see them in your life it's pointless to socialize with them? ummm okay

What are you even doing on a forum then?

Grogsy 12-17-2013 10:57 PM

Fair enough ;) I don't spend much time on the internet anyway - work long hours and free time is spent with the love of my life and I have heaps of friends to catch up with whenever I get the chance.

Except when you're posting here.

Grogsy 12-17-2013 10:59 PM

Of course! I'm waiting to get my posts up to 15 or whatever it is so I can post some music vids etc.

Won't happen by posting in here

Grogsy 12-17-2013 11:03 PM

Is that right - I notice I've only got 4 posts but I thought I'd posted more than that

lounge posts don't add to your tally

Grogsy 12-17-2013 11:05 PM

Rightio ........... thanks for the info

Sparky 12-17-2013 11:30 PM

Oxy I agree completely. My only regret is having had a facebook in the past that is still cached and easily accessible.

I've had police investigate friends based on their posts, managers are being told to pry into them before interviews-not to mention what you say on them since employment can easily get you fired.

It's not like people I want to contact aren't communicable otherwise. And other people I don't care enough to actually want to interact with in person I can't be bothered to care what their up to, nor do i desire their superficial acceptance or "like"

GravitySlips 12-17-2013 11:48 PM

An easy, instantaneous way to communicate with people you like, friends who (in some cases) have moved on and wouldn't otherwise be easily contactable, a way to share interesting information, and a way to keep up to date with events/gigs/parties etc? Yeah, terrible!

I did a lot of embarrassing **** on Facebook when I was younger, but I also got laid a lot with its help too. I regret nothing. At certain times, in certain situations, it can be a very valuable social tool, and it was for me. I use it sparingly now, but I'm glad it exists.

It's only a problem if you have mostly boring and vacuous people as friends. Otherwise, no bother.

Musikwala 12-18-2013 02:18 AM

I see Facebook more as a nice way to keep in touch with old friends who have moved far away. Without picking up the phone and spending on long distance phone calls, it is a convenient way to keep in touch. Nothing more. Otherwise, I agree that it is a collossal waste of time. But so are so many things, including posting in forums! :p ;)

Mr. Charlie 12-20-2013 08:56 PM

Never used it. Probably never will. But I can see it's potential. It could even be argued that without Facebook there'd be no Arab Spring.

It's a tool, innit; and tools are only as good as the people wielding them.

Doesn't the Bubonic plague get spread by rats and flees and people not bathing? Well, that's several reasons not to go to Madagascar.

Funny Face drink mix? Really? I haven't thought of that stuff since...well, since Abbey Road was a new album. I drank that stuff when I was a kid

Those are all flavors of Funny Face drink mix, popular in the late 60's. I wouldn't expect anyone here to know that, and as I said I haven't even thought about them in over 40 years

*the reference to Funny Face was pretty arbitrary, I'll give you that, not sure where rostasi was going with that

*btw, Jolly Olly Orange originally had the rather politically incorrect name Injun Orange

While I really dislike you this thread OP I will add one thing I agree with. People having pictures of all their past lovers/boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives and that **** up for the world to see. While they have the right to do that don't you think you should keep that **** on a private hard drive or maybe in your house with the other pictures, not on the internet. It is the reason I try to never go snooping or looking around facebook that much because I dont want to see something I can not unsee.

RoxyRollah 12-28-2013 07:35 AM

Facebook, sigh* from time to time Facebook and I decide to see other people.

I frequently decide to deactivate, when I get bored with the same stupid **** I see multiple times a day. (ie.) People, making out, stupid stupid bit strips, # tags and the cardinal sin of not taking me off the slot invites, candy crush, or farmville...

Personally I use my facebook wall, as space to be as freaky strange, and random as I want to be.
My status updates are generally song lyrics, or you tube videos, or art that I find on the internet.. To which I generally get the response of, "Dude you are so weird." In essence, my wall is complied of all the things that make me tick.
Unfortunately for most of the people, I know on FB they don't see it as a forum to keep things alive, other then what they had for lunch last Tuesday. Which is lead me to MB in the first place, searching like minded people.
I have more fun interacting with strangers that share similar interests, then interacting with people I do know, and claim to care about... **** man, I am wondering how half of my friend list got their request accepted... I should have put people through a rigorous hazing ritual, to test their knowledge and opinions, and taste in music, before accepting them.... ooo that's a good idea... I think it may be time to thin the herd...

Delete them off Facebook then. Or better yet deactivate your account.

Twatter is actually better than Facebook, if you ignore the cunts & Twitstorms it's actually a good site, especially for news. Facebook is far too personal, some shit needs to remain private & people need to realise this. People putting DOB, full names, employment history etc. & It causes way too many problems, people are way too emotionally invested in it. Getting upset if someone doesn't like their status/deletes them off their friends list ffs :o:.

Pathetic cunts. I honestly think in 10/15 years people will look back and cringe at it.

Taxman 12-28-2013 09:05 AM

The only reason why I visit Facebook sometimes is that I belong one group. It is actually the only place where people actually talk about music but on the other hand, it is more like a message board or something and not like a forum. Also as long as it is small enough, you know, under 30 active users, although the overall number is over 300, but still. It is a great place and nearly the only reason I use Facebook.
I used to use also Facebook's chat, but it is so slow and does not work well, so I use chat app nowadays as much as possible.
Other than that, I find it completely useless, and annoying. But if some one likes it, it is not my problem so actually I don't care.

Mr. Charlie 12-28-2013 09:10 AM

I saw an old friend last week and he can't go 45 minutes without checking his facebook status. It's annoying as you're talking to him, eating a meal, or whatever, and he's constantly checking his mobile phone. Odd.
