A Facebook-free world
It's hard to imagine a more intellect-sapping, morally-negative or brainwashing phenomenon than Facebook.
Facebook is for people who are desperate for attention, and some people will go to great lengths to get noticed. You only have to look at the photos stuck on there to prove that. The progression of the human species doesn't involve telling total strangers what you had for breakfast or that your goldfish died last night. The world would, quite simply, be a healthier place without Facebook. In a very few years, it will be a source of embarrassment to even admit that you once had a FB account. The problem is, that the pictures of you sticking your backside out of a window in a moment of drunkeness will find its way onto someones desk when you go for a job or seek a promotion. Its also a bit like a potential new husband/wife/partner doing a 'credit-check' on you or reading your life history before realising what a jerk you are. |
are you a teenager

I know many human teenagers though. Interestingly, the least-lonely and more content ones are those who have already dumped that 'life-support' rubbish called Facebook. |
i feel like you want to be really edgy really badly
|
Don't worry about it. Whatever you meant. If recognising some of the inherent dangers of this FB stuff makes people think, then thats a good thing.
Sadly, there are very many people well past teenage years who are sucked into the infantile world of FB, and its the 'kids' that are dumping FB by the million! How interesting. |

Almost certainly I do. There are some creatures around that can't possibly be human.
The tell-tale signs are obvious. They generally have a little screen thing held out in front of them as they hobble along (I guess its a communication lifeline to the mother ship). Another sign is that they generally cannot do basic arithmetic. |
Did you see their spaceship? Was it pumping out house music?

In short, I think you are making a huge generalization. |

"We should stop telling things to strangers over facebook"

You may, or may not know some seriously lonely people who actually have hundreds of 'friends' on this suprisingly mis-leading thing called Face(less) book, that convinces many that it is normal to share your life with total strangers. |

This is a silly thread
My facebook hardly has any information about me aside from my name and some selfies. The real danger is when you get ****ed up (like I do) and decide to try to chat up your exes. |
Facebook exists because of and entirely relies upon the ego's of all the people that are gullible enough to put their entire lives out there for all to see. The corporations that extrapolate this information will use it to squeeze out as much money from those people as possible, and that is the sole purpose of the ones that oversee it.
There are some good uses for it though. Not many but some. |
Based on your writings, Oxy, you seem to like to provoke people? Sadly, your posts are rather silly :(

What I do is stimulate debate about things we often don't give much thought to. Issues that concern people. Things that, perhaps need some alternative view? What would be silly is if a major 'celebrity' (say David Beckham or someone like that) walked down the street with a pile of cabbage on his head, then within a few days there would be a million people doing the same. So, to be honest, its about being slightly 'detached' and not so easily 'led'. Which is what Face(less)Book doesn't like. |

So Oxy, how long did you use Facebook for?

I've never had a facebook. Bow to me as your King.

I accumulate "likes" I sometimes accumulate comments too
It gives me a sense of enormous well-being (Facebook) And then I'm happy for the rest of the day safe in the knowledge There will always be a bit of my heart devoted to it |

I cry for an hour, turn off my cellphone, and think about never leaving the house. Edit: That was brilliant BTW. |
;)

I get all my scientific data and political information from Facebook. It's the best way.
|
It's funny when some of my friends have heated arguments over political stances, then you see them at a party and they act like they never said a damn thing to each other on Bookface since they can't hide behind a PC monitor.

honestly im only on facebook for intelligent, well informed, smart, accurate, non biased discussion

Probably after about a year I noticed that there were so many more negatives than positives with this. Pretty soon after that I knew for certain that Facebook was, and remains, at best a childish institution, and at worst, something that can haunt and create havoc in the professional and social lives of otherwise sensible and mature individuals. If I could give just one small slice of advice to anyone reading this, it would be to dump Face(less)Book now, or at the very least, use it with great care. You don't need to share your life with total strangers. |

Other people have somehow convinced you of that. That is what Face(less)Book does. You don't know who is feeding you your scientific data or (worse still) your poltical information on FB. Do you? It could even be me. And you haven't got a single clue who I am or what i want you to think! Dump Facebook or use it with extreme care. Trust Me. (but then, why should you trust me? You don't know who I am do you? A bit like me giving you some information via facebook) See what i mean? |
oxy, janzoon was bein sarcastic and im tellin you this now to save yourself from someone alertin you in a very snarky way that makes them feel cool
also i never even heard of facebook to be honest, i use friendster but usually only when i download from kazaa lite |

I'm sure that never actually occurred to me. I can smell intelligence from 2000 miles. Just so you know. Oxy has spies everywhere so be careful music people. |

So we are slowing the progression of the human race if we tell people that our goldfish died last night?
