Default Fight,Flight, Or Freeze?

So there are three physiological responses ones body and mind go through, in the event of a catastrophe. Fight, Flight, Or Freeze? Have you ever been in a situation where those options which we are hardwired with have, presented themselves?

Which one would you choose? Which one would you like to think you would choose? For example I would like to think to that in a situation where my home was being broken into, that I would beat the intruder mercilessly with my nail studded Louisville slugger, then tie them up till the cops showed up... But sadly I don't think that would be the case..

Personally I have been in a situation where someone very close to me, had their life jeopardized and I had the option to run, freeze, or fight, and in that split second, I chose fight, and pushed the person in danger out of the way to take the impending gunshot myself. The fight response worked well in calling the shooters bluff.. But I suppose you don't really know until that situation is imposed upon you.

So I am curious, have you ever been in a situation that has warranted one of the three responses, or if you were to be in a situation where one of the the three responses were warranted which would you choose?

The only time I can think of when this happened to me when I was younger and almost got hit by a car. I ended up freezing like a deer in headlights. I was also about 8 years old at the time.

I am home alone 90% of the time, so whenever I hear something that sounds like an intruder, I get my lead shovel. Otherwise, I'm a flight person. Ive had many opportunities to almost get a clobbering but I always run away.

I've always been instinctual when something chaotic or intense is happening. My father has been a firefighter for 35 years so maybe some of that has rubbed off on me. I'm the type of person that will get everybody out of a burning car and then going down with flames even though fire is my greatest fear.

My girlfriend at the time passed out at an Opeth concert. I dragged out out and kind of had a conniption thinking she was suffering from a brain aneurysm or something and was screaming at people t get the f*ck out of my way. Everybody at the back bar thought she was drunk. I ended that when I jumped the bar to call an ambulance when the bartender told me to just give her water. I don't f*ck around. Turns out she hadn't eaten for two days because she was stressed out from a fight we had. Women.

I also discovered a man in the woods behind my house who had been in an ATV accident. He was pinned up against a tree and his leg looked like mangled shredded beef. I took my shirt off and told him to wrap it around "the bloody parts" and ran down the hill to call 911. They saved the leg.

Even just recently my pup had an allergic reaction to onions and my parents thought she'd be fine until morning. I drove her a half hour to the nearest animal shelter and ended up saving her life.

I guess you could call me Batman.

It's sort of a case by case basis, but generally I'll go for fight. I remember one time as a child (don't quite recall the age, younger than ten), me and my sister were watching youtube videos where something jumps out and scares you. I really wasn't ready for one I guess, and when the scary thing popped out, I yelled and punched my sister in the face. Good times.
