Fedoras are best coupled with a trench coat from Goodwill, a chained wallet, a collared shirt the offender got in middle school, a bolo tie, dad jeans, and tennis shoes.

bonus uglies: neckbeard, wire-framed glasses, acne

If Satan wears a Fedora that sounds like a shining endorsement.

I was originally planning on avoiding posting anything in The Lounge for a while but I agree with this thread too much to ignore it.

Pseudo intellectuality is one of the biggest crimes in the existence and so are those awful hats. Only if I were God I would redesign the Hell. Then everyone in Hell should use those awful fedoras and then nobody was able to do anything or see beauty in each others cos those fedoras were always present. It would be more awful prison than all the other Hells He has designed.

LoathsomePete 01-06-2014 10:35 AM

I know I should probably get over it, because it's not like fedoras have been as popular as they were back when they were cool, but I still find myself angry at the goddamn beta neckbeards that ruined it for everyone who could pull it off.

Silence, hipster! They were never acceptable. Neckbeards just made it obvious.

I'm guessing I missed a meme somewhere.
Personally I think hipsters in flat caps are far more punchable.

This kinda looks like BooBoo.

Janszoon 01-06-2014 11:06 AM

I like fedoras. They don't look good on me personally, but I can't imagine Indiana Jones or Philip Marlowe without one. I had no idea they had so many anti-fans.

Burning Down 01-06-2014 11:10 AM

Hey Seq, I know Zoey is knitting you a hat, but perhaps she should knit you a fedora instead, lol.

Mostly because insecure man-children saw those images and thought that it was solely the hat that made them such icons of masculinity, and that if they got a fedora of there very own it would override their insecurity, lack of grace and charm and transform them into Indiana Jones or Philip Marlowe.

I think that MAYBE one in a hundred thousand can rock the fedora. Those few and far between that can do so because they ARE dapper and bon-vivant. The VAST majority are wannabes.

Both are douchey, but a fedora is just...bigger, and more noticable, so it gets more hate just on that alone.

Psy-Fi 01-06-2014 11:18 AM

It ain't the hat, it's the wearer. Some guys have enough fashion sense to know the right size & style of fedora to wear and the proper clothing to wear with it. Other guys just wind up looking like clueless hipster dorks.

Well, only one in a hundred million can rock the sombrero... but I still like sombreros.

But David Thomas is a seventy(or something)-year old weirdo who wears a hat because he's in Pere Ubu and people in Pere Ubu just do goofy ****. Anyone under the age of thirty (or something) who's wearing them nowadays is a douchebag regardless of whether or not they can actually rock it.

Don't give her any ideas, she might actually do that. Please Dayvan, if you see this, please don't knit me a fedora, I want something I can actually wear.

my fedora always looks sharp and i get so many compliments from older gentleman happy to see this generation still have class and on top of that, its a signal to the women out there that im a gentleman who cares about his appearance but also will do old school things for them like open the car door, pull out their chair at diners and provide seed for them so they can put their child bearin hips to good use. its all biological and scienific at the core

My brother is wearing one right now. He loves it. I don't know who he is anymore. Hey, at least it's fedoras and not heroin.

i always light my cigar with my refillable lighter within seconds of puttin on the fedora cause it looks classy as hell. sometimes i will just walk down the street and see a woman and her friends stare at me and get a big smile across their face and i just tip the fedora cause i know they want it but at the same time im a gentleman. this one time i was on the bus and this cute girl walks on the bus but the seats are taken so i stand up and offer her my seat. we talk and she gets off the next stop and the older gentleman across from me leans over and says 'glad to see theres still hope for this generation.'

also frank sinatra often wore a fedora:)
