Either way it's a pretty marked change in tone. Too bad I wasn't around for the other Charles. He seemed fun. :/

I should start doing blow to get my energy back up.

adidasss 05-12-2021 10:18 PM

Or change something in your life that seems to be sucking out your soul before you really end up as a bitter old man. :/

You on the spectrum or what pal?? :/ You really good at counting toothpicks on the floor and not so great at reading the room?? :/ Tough break. Better move to southeast Asia and meditate on it for 50 years :/

Hey now, that's my shtick.

TFW The thread turns into something weird and scary.

goldendoodle 05-13-2021 09:32 PM

Tfw you don't have anything to obsess over currently (always bad news) and your dopamine receptors are broken so no other stimulation is enough, reading is not enough, exercise is not enough, nothing is enough. I feel like a feral dog eating itself (but also like the doll girl in that episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark). Would love it if they'd just go ahead and end Clown World Simulation now, please.

Chill, chill.

You want to talk? I'll virtually pour you a martini and we can expel these bad thoughts of yours.

Marie Monday 05-14-2021 01:58 AM

Hold on Chio :( things will get better. Keep up the fight until the eventual demise of Clown World Simulation will save us all

Have you considered Star Trek?

Thanks, I'm fine really.

Oh, I won't be needing one since I currently have the luxury of this gas station monstrosity right here, thanks to my roommate:

I have, and I loved Star Trek as a child, but I have deliberately avoided certain things because I'd become too obsessed. (This is why for instance I've only just dipped my toe into the whole sphere of mothman research because I'm already too fixated on conspiracies in general and the LAST thing I need is a mothman obsession whilst jobless and on the verge of going off my meds. ..UnLeSs......)

The Batlord 05-15-2021 07:26 PM

This is what Nazi Antarctic flying saucer bases are for. Glorious enough to obsess over but unseemly and stupid enough to laugh at.

The Batlord 06-16-2021 07:41 PM

Tfw you're sitting on your porch at night smoking a cig browsing the internet on your phone and a fluttering insect is bothering you and you're like "Chill out, moth" but then it lands on your phone and the silhouette shows it to be a cockroach.

TFW you lost your headphones and you sit in a bus with the loudest possible french woman and she is a few rows behind you and you wear earplugs and it still sounds like she's right besides you and her voice reminds you of a very cheerful dying cat and unfortunately your rudimentary french is still sufficient to understand her inane comments about every single thing the bus passes by and when she's not talking to her friends she's "quietly" singing to herself

The poor woman’s GP probably prescribed Prozac which often induces an insane fit of optimism & fake cheerfullness along with an irripressible desire to inform everyone what’s going on in the victim’s head.

Being french is quite sufficient as an explanation for being annoying.

Luckily I’ve yet to encounter a frog (Oz for the French) off their face with a bad reaction to Prozac.

Someone told me French is relatively popular in Melbourne for some reason and there are many people who want to study it. Could see myself doing it for a couple of years if circumstances align. Sounds like such a fun city.

Wonder where Grundy's story took place. French tourists are some of the worst.

grindy 07-04-2022 11:58 PM

It was on Gran Canaria.

adidasss 07-05-2022 01:36 AM

Worst tourists in Europe are probably the British. Wherever they go it's chaos.

Well, given all us who aren’t frogs are supposed to be uncultured compared to the French. Almost understandable until the French invented deconstructionist so called philosophy, the most inane, irrational, pseudo-intellectual nonsense ever to inflicted on our species.
As to French being popular in Melbourne I hadn’t noticed apart from on pretentious restaurant menus.

As to French tourists being the worst I suggest Americans take the prize. I was dreaming away on a marble seat at the end of the Taj Mahal reflecting pool when I overheard two Americans “Harry, where are the camels” “No camels here Doris, that’s Tuesday when we get to Turkey”.

Don’t know about chaos but their dietary requirements make we wonder why they bother to leave home.

You seem really knowledgeable, how do you do it?

jadis 07-05-2022 02:25 AM

That I'm impressed and want to know where you get all this knowledge?!

rubber soul 07-05-2022 07:33 AM

I've also heard that Americans are not the best tourists. I've heard stories of Americans expecting the locals to speak English for example.

adidasss 07-05-2022 07:37 AM

I'm not an American but I expect everybody to speak English. It's the lingua franca of our age, no use pretending otherwise.

As you have such a devastatingly low opinion of deconstruction, I expect you can tell us what it is, beyond how bad it is. We all know and agree that it arose from the so-called “linguistic turn” in philosophy and the social sciences, specifically from the preeminence of Saussurian linguistics in the 1960s as the theoretical model for the study of social phenomena. Why don’t you explain to us in general terms what was the big thing about Saussure and what were Derrida’s points of departure from that model, what were his major critiques of Saussure and Levi-Strauss.

My boy's wicked smart!

jadis 07-06-2022 10:38 AM

I would never try to cock-block someone pretending to have read Anti-Oedipus to get laid (many such cases, all the power to the horny aspiring Deleuzians out there). Moreover I don’t think anyone ought to read this stuff unless they really want to. But it’s annoying when someone’s trying to condescend over authors they clearly don’t know the first thing about, esp the "my perfect pitch is preventing me from partaking in the lowly genres" guy

The Batlord 07-06-2022 11:53 AM

I ain't even hating, it was funny.
