My wife, my brother and a friend who I invited but who's never posted all know about this place but that's it.

How about you guys? Do you kept your MB alter-ego under wraps, or have you gone public and admitted to the world that you post in a music forum ?
Also, if you want to get philosophical, What does your decision say about you ? How does it affect the way you post?
I don't think it's too idle a question. I was thinking about doing a topic about whether or not members discuss MB irl the other day.

The way some people behave on here I could never invite anyone irl to this site. So MB has become one of those things that can't share with other people irl. I usually talk about it abstractly irl something like 'I belong to this music site... they said [whatever] about that band.' I sometimes invite people in plug.dj to check out MusicBanter. I know it's not for everyone but there is also a probability they might like it. I actually have one "referral."

Membership runs from a few days to a few years. I don't know what kind of person hold out long than a few weeks or months. But I often wonder why some people stay and others go. I remember a couple members telling me they either thinking about or were going to quite MB. Sometimes they gave reasons. Even though I didn't know Stephen that well, but I felt bad for him when he made his last post explaining why he's leaving. I would hate to think if I invited someone here irl to join MB and he or she had a horrifying experience it would be in some way my fault. So no I don't talk about MB too much or encourage any one irl to join.

It is not that big of a deal if someone ends up having a horrible experience. Sansa ran off one of my female friends that I got to join by being bitchy to her in shoutbox but it isn't the end of the world because my friend doesn't take the internet seriously.

If your friends are sensitive don't bring them to an internet forum.

^ Well, that´s a good sign of a solid relationship, YorkeDaddy. So no flirting or Valentines posts for you!

My bandmate made an account but only has like 10 posts. I've mentioned this forum to a couple other people but didn't make an effort to get them to join or anything. That's about it!
^ Yes, kind of surprising to me, but MB just doesn´t appeal to many musicians and enthusiasts.

^ Is that so? I know for a fact that another good member left because of her presence as well.

I've invited four people. Two of them got banned, and the other two couldn't be arsed to post.

Looks like a lot of people share your attitude, Neapolitan, and are uneasy about inviting RL friends into this den of vipers:-

^ Luckily, I don´t think many people have a horrifying experience here; if we have any really aggressive posters they usually move on or get banned eventually. In Stephen´s case, I think it was just a gradual disappointment about members´ lack of interest in music. Post about your latest musical enthusiasm and you may be ignored completely; post about how big your dick is and the thread will run forever.

^ That´s an important first step, zombie kid. Congratulations. I´m going to take you up on your invitation and visit your User Profile right after submitting this post, so you´d better make sure it´s all cleaned up and tidy!!
